different second words, but both got a/p/e in wrong locations, which helps get it on turn 3; didn't give a ton of thought, but I don't think there are a ton of other options with those 3 letters wrong in those locations

There were more legit options than I thought, Ran both of us through wordle solver and you had...
speak, pecan, cheap, petal, pleat and penal and some obscure words.
I had speak, cheap, opera, spear, recap, repay and some obscure words.
In my mind, based on A and E eliminations, I was looking at _PEA_ or _ _ EAP. So what I had in my head was SPEAK, SPEAR and CHEAP. . If this meant something like big $$ and I had lots of time I should have chose SPEAR as R was common in lots of possible words for me that I had not considered.

I got the r eliminated in my 2nd word and you got the L eliminated in your 2nd word; I guess in theory both of us shoulda gone after the other letter since half my options had an L and 4/7 of yours had an R
petal may be "the best" #3 for me because:
if e/a/L in right spot it's penal
if e/a in right spot and no L then it's pecan
if a in right spot and e in wrong spot and a T then it's pleat
if a in right spot and e in wrong spot and no T then it's speak or cheap
but of course in today's puzzle it woulda been scenario 4 and I'd be 50/50 on speak/cheap for a 4 or 5 solve; but it makes every other scenario a 4 solve when guess for 3rd word is wrong
