SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I8 is a winner

Yes, yes it is

Yes.

Sure

I've no idea what I8 is, is it related to the obvious I6?

Someone can go ahead and bold anyway

inchworm

Gonna have to think about this in the morning

First glance I got g4 as likely grub and inchworm could just be stand-in for “worm” clue since no W card to use

And r9 roundworm was also mentioned if that’s the case

So then what is worm meant to be a clue for?

Could be bait or similar

Maybe more likely is just caterpillar

H6 could be hookah for the caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland or Hungry for the kids book The Very Hungry Caterpillar

It’s also a brand that makes landscaping equipment, but I don’t see any obvious options with these letters for that

Silkworm woulda been great confirmer that we are missing, which gives me a little pause, but coulda missed it

Not sold yet, especially without silkworm, but best thoughts tonight

I think hornworm is also a type of caterpillar, but come to think of it, an inchworm also is I think so prolly overthinking this and it’s just caterpillar

No clue on Ervin’s multiple spelling long R words tho

nothing has changed; I like caterpillar

Nich, you know that I'm going to go along with whatever you think is best. Your track record in this game is absurd. The only input I'll offer is to ask if you considered centipede. The "inch" in inchworm has me wondering if it's a possibility.

Or it could just be that they had to think of a clue that begins with I, and that's what was available.

centipede is interesting, and super hard

not even sure how they would clue that

prolly start with i6 for insect and then try to narrow down from there; would have to do something with legs/feet/etc

I would think hundred would be a clue since we have an h, so h7

h6 should be Hungry and an inchworm is technically a type of caterpillar I'm pretty sure, so I think caterpillar is the better first guess, but I like centipede as top option if caterpillar is wrong

tho technically centipede wouldn't be an insect since more than 6 legs while caterpillar is, so lack of insect could hurt caterpillar some

but I don't think they avoid hundred as clue/confirmer if it's centipede

I'm not advocating for centipede over caterpillar... just thought it was worth considering. The other thing to consider is that Caterpillar is a well-known company that makes tractors, bulldozers, and plenty of other large machinery for construction. Is there anything with an IHRG that they should have clued as a confirmer?

Anyhow, I'm perfectly fine with you bolding it as a guess.

yeah, def worth considering

I couldn't think of any construction equipment confirmers for that path

given inchworm is a caterpillar and they all knew what i8 was, I think caterpillar makes sense with centipede as most likely if wrong

Yup! My H6 was indeed hungry

If it was centipede i'd defo clue H5 human lol

Nice work!

And yeah, g4 was grub obv

ah, yeah; I tried to block human centipede from my memory so didn't think of that

thanks for the reminder 😀

S12 is good (S5 less so, but maybe), with M8 (or G5) being a good confirmer/follow-up.

Probably a good bit more here, will keep thinking

I actually just think S12 is the way to go.

S12 is just about a lock

Yeah
