Codenames for Suckers
Anyone (preferably who hasn't played in ages/ever and sucks at it like myself) fancy a game of Codenames?
Or regulars if
Yeah. One of the toughest boards for both teams I’ve seen.
Robin
Triangle
Boom
Ink
Jeweler
Dice
Bark
Scientist
File
Viking
Life
Back
Pound
School
Tick
Russia
Earth
Frog
Jail
Craft
Helmet
Iceland
Comb
Green
Olive
I think it is; it's not on the board and it nor any of the words on the board are compound words so I don't think that applies either
but if you disagree I'm fine taking penalty and keeping this moving
We can just keep going with your turn. Not interested in delaying the game further. I shouldβve messaged you instead of posting in the thread.
Circling back to this, I still donβt think this is a legal clue. The rules state that no part of a word still alive on the board can be used in a clue. Using the prefix tri- to get the word triangle seems to me like a clear violation.
Interested to hear what others think.
Yay us.
What were the intended words for time if we had jail, school and tick?
I'd be fine with that clue but I get your point.
Would you have objected to "tripe" as a clue if it wasn't intended to clue triangle?
GG all.
From the rules:
Your clue must be about the meaning of the words. You can't use your clue to talk about the letters in a word or its position on the table. Gland is not a valid clue for ENGLAND
You can't say part of a compound word on the table. Until HORSESHOE is covered up, you can't say horse, shoe, unhorsed, or snowshoe.
I don't think triangle/triforce technically breaks either of these, but it does seem against the spirit of the game imo.
Would you have objected to "tripe" as a clue if it wasn't intended to clue triangle?
What? No.
And anybody who says you can't say sparrow when ROW is on the table is just trying to cause trouble.
I dunno; I see your point and will avoid similar situations in the future just in case, even though I don't think it's technically illegal, but it's def close enough that it should just be avoided
casino wasn't a great clue; was trying to connect dice with 2 other words: boom and jeweler...but just a bad clue
nest was robin, bark, triangle; but not enough nests are triangle shaped to make that a good clue either
blueprint was my only decent clue: ink, file, scientist and triangle...a blueprint is a diagram full of rectangles, circles and triangles...if it was ink, file, scientist, triangle I woulda just done paper; blueprint specifically was for triangle
also, stupid school was a blocker; I was gonna do paper for bark, ink, file, scientist early on instead of doing nest, but school was blocking it
finally I had triangle, boom, jeweler that I had poorly clued previously and had to re-clue again...I thought of gold for gold boom, jeweler but gold doesn't really hit triangle...so went Triforce for the Zelda connection, but it was a stretch as well
3 bad clues on a horrible board and one good clue that had a word missed = a bad time for our team
good job blue, sorry red, glad to move to next game
GG all.
From the rules:

I was referring to:
You canβt say any form of a visible word on the table. Until BREAK is covered up by a card, you canβt say break, broken, breakage or breakdown.
For this reason, I wouldβve objected to a clue of rectangle as well.
No
forget any conventions and use deductive logic
we needed 4 words to finish our board and I clued 3 words...we can't win if we get just those 3, we also need to get one more...so it makes sense that the next word on your list (bark) is ours if I clue 3 when we need 4, as that's the only way we can win
unlimited is for 2+ words at top of list being right or the convention that if first on list is wrong and 2nd is right, we can go unlimited to get you to pick up that 2nd word...if I go unlimited it's never just "next word on list" because by going unlimited I denied the logical n-1 so top of list is not right unless word 2(+) is/are right
angle is a word and the core component of both rectangle and triangle, so I would not do rectangle for triangle
I think prefix/suffix is different (can I say redo if reimburse is on the board? can I say flying if marching is on the board?) but tri is more core to the meaning than re/ing type of prefix/suffixes so I get it and will just avoid in the future

Yes Nich, you can say flying if marching is in the board. Between you asking that and xander asking about tripe, Iβm sorry I even brought it up.
well tripe is different as tri isn't even a component of the word; just happens to have t then r then i in that order somewhere in the word
I get how tri or quad are different types of prefixes than re or de so will avoid in the future
in this case tri has same meaning for both words, and while they aren't compound words, you can easily break the words into 2 parts: tri and angle or force, so sharing tri means I shouldn't clue that
it didn't matter because the round was basically over but earlier I clued tyrannosaurus - 1 to get dinosaur, I'm guessing that's sorta violates the rules somewhat
gg blue
what a strugglebus of a round all around
That was a brutal board, GG all
Odd i'm blue (da ba di)

In that case, all last game eb and PC were playing on the wrong teams haha.
And the game before that. And so on. This is amazing
***ACTUAL NEW TEAMS***
There were 6 items in your list. Here they are in random order:

Ohhhhhhh
It was the wrong quote - THESE are the actual teams. It was fixed after the initial rand because the first rand was the same teams as before.
It’s still PC v eb, so we’re good to go.
