I’ve typed it all 200 times before so just gonna move on to the next game

We had 1 word on our list, if we weren't supposed to guess it, then why would you use an unlimited clue?

If Missile was the word then it would be "chopper - 1"

"chopper - unlimited" means 1 word for chopper then not the next in your backup list but the one after that.

2 turns ago when you got given "Skyfall - 3" you were also being told that next word on your backup list was right (it was band).

I'd never guess band here. I'm ignoring the list after I get the number of clued words

I went sports - 5 and was going for

Film
Buck (Milwaukee Bucks)

I went sports rather than sport to make Film more in the game. I knew Film and Buck were flimsy, but I wanted more clues for you to have in the late game.

I knew Beat was on the board, but I felt like being aggressive. I totally missed Agent.

Result was 2 red and 1 blue with Agent next on the backup list.

Nich appropriately avoided Agent so that I'd have to deal with it. I thought about ignoring it, but giving 2 blue words in 2 turns seemed not great. I thought about a 0 clue to get you off it, but only 2 red words after 2 rounds seemed not great either.

In the end I stretched an easy 3 into a risky 4. The plan being that you either get 3 words and a neutral or you get 4 words and a blue so it's a bit more balanced. You ended up getting 3 and a neutral. The 4th word was Buck because a big plot point in the movie is chasing money (bucks) to pay the ransom for Doug.

I with blue still needing 4 words i was confident we'd get 1 and only 1 more turn.

Charged was the best I could come up with and thought it was pretty decent. You guys suggested that charger would have been the clue if I wanted Horseshoe, but I don't think charger fits for Lawyer.

We missed but luckily the codenames gods gave us another chance.

It's standard end game strategy.

Even if you missed Band because of that it was standard that you trace the lists back after you get that unlimited clue.

the n-1 (top of list) / unlimited (second of list) endgame I think is the most common strategy for spymasters here.

Yeah, but I'm not keeping band on a list. He clued 3, we got 3, it's off the list.

Unlimited means it's not missile. It's whatever the previous word on the list was. Even if you think it's off the list it needs to go back on when the unlimited clue drops.

I get that you have the meaning of unlimited and n-1 reversed (you clued ot the other way round in a previous game), but that's what Nich meant.

Incidentally when Nich went Skyfall - 3 (I don't fully remember the movie so wouldn't have got the intended connections beyond Agent), I would have gone Jefferson - 3 presidential name for Capital and Jefferson Airplane for Helicopter and Band. Leaving Agent on board that red still had a keen interest in guessing.

I know what unlimited means. It was an incoherent clue in a game with a 1 word list. So we made our best interpretation

Jerferson - 3 is probably bad though. Can't win the game on that turn and likely Jefferson Airplane not thought of by guessers

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree.

There's a load of subjective thoughts and opinions on clues in the early game but this is pretty much mechanical to me. Follow the steps that follow the previously set up conventions and get there.

But like I said, we'll have to agree to disagree.

But this happens all the time though. ALL THE TIME. Guessers guess a word that's your color but not one you intended for the clue.

Spymasters want to be able to use that. Trust the clue.

We should have had horseshoe higher to begin with, so good job almost getting us there after that position
