Mini Walrus - Reveal tbd by eyebooger
hi
I heard someone promised some game here
rdy 😀
BTW, if anyone is looking to enter more Walrus:
Ooft a collapse
when reveal finish?
Is this what eyebooger determined
I figured IBD was working on entering my walrus, but he clearly hasn't done that either, so let's say the next reveal should be happening in the next 36 hours.
I’m finalizing my submission for yours now.
Reveal for category three will be tomorrow.
The reveal pace is very relaxed, but it's better than the alternative.
I once entered a Walrus on MU and when the reveal was happening my name popped up at position 23 or something out of 40ish players.
The review seemed weird, and then I clicked on the link and it was the wrong song.
I let the guy know and reposted the correct link. After about a minute and a half the decision came that it was still position 23. After a minute and a half of a 4 minute song this conclusion was made. The guy was clearly just pressing buttons and what a waste of time.
Win/lose or middle of the pack here I at least know it's been listened to and considered appropriately
If I were doing this reveal optimally, I’d also leave the run time of each song between reveals of each position. When I’m playing Walrus, I like listening to all of the other submissions so I fully absorb how terrible everyone else’s taste in music is.
I once made a mistake in a walrus where th mod said he'd listen to all the submissions completely twice. I put a 20-minute video of John Coltrane. The child was excruciated.
Hey, if this category had been “songs that kind of mention god if you squint hard enough,” some of you would’ve done pretty okay!
Possibly another error, I submitted a song that IS God.
3. A song about god
Perhaps this was a bad category. It sounded better when I wrote the OP. Probably the alcohol. Anyway, a song that mentions god doesn’t make it a song about god. Hope that helps.
No delayed anti-podiums this round. Right into the terrible.

I was surprised when I saw this submission. It’s a well-known song, but I never clocked that it was about God, so I was interested to take a fresh listen through that lens. It’s not about God. It’s not even a metaphor about God. There’s one line in the 2nd verse that hints at the existence of a God. Sorry, it’s a way better song than the some of these others, but I can’t score it higher than this because I could be talked into them being about God.

i don’t really care for this type of stuff. It often seems to me like it goes nowhere, but there are exceptions. This is not one of those exceptions.

Doctor Zeus submits:
Faithless - God is a DJ
In 7th place scoring 3 point:
This is fine. Nothing earth-shattering for me, and I actually got distracted by some of the rhymes. It’s peripherally about God I guess, but not the most solid category fit.

JMurder3 submits:
GZA - B.I.B.L.E. (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)
In 6th place scoring 4 points:
I hate the message of this song. It’s filled with platitudinal bullshit that was a big part of what started my deconstruction. I wish I could rank it lower. Good category fit!

DonkDonkDonkDonk submits:
Stevie Wonder - Have a Talk With God
In 5th place scoring 5 points:
I hadn’t heard this song in a long time (>30 years), and I had definitely never paid attention to the lyrics. It’s a good song, but not really about God (or the incarnation of which the title speaks), but enough about how *******s use God for their benefit to be a category fit.

xander biscuits submits:
Genesis - Jesus He Knows Me
In 4th place scoring 6 points:
Decent song that addresses doubt (mixed with a good bit of cynicism and anger). A little about me: I can’t stand the sound of children singing.

filthyvermin submits:
XTC - Dear God
In 3rd place scoring 8 points:
Man, I haven’t heard this song in years. Maybe it was a throwaway submission that lucked into the podium, but at least it’s not Joan Osborne. It definitely hits me squarely in the nostalgia bone. It’s a good category fit depicting the curiosity of a child about God. Could be deeper lyrically, but still good stuff. The writer apparently got death threats for portraying God as female. People are so ****ing stupid.
