2+2 Speed Walrus #2 reveal
A better selection here compared to speed walrus #1 (probably due to there being a lot more M-H songs than U-D songs)
In 8th place we have DonkDonkDonkDonk with Home By Now (Muna).
This poor song never had a change. About 5 seconds in we get that "Thump Thump Thump" and it just will not stop!
No song can overcome that.

In 7th we have a sacrilege (amplify selects "Honey Bee" by Muddy Waters). I bought a couple of Muddy Waters LPs way back in the day.
I didn't get anything out of them at all. My loss I guess.
I do have a number of blues performers that I like but Muddy ain't one.
Song is useless but the instrumentation is stellar: Muddy making those buzzing bee sounds on guitar and some good harmonica too.
Now we come to #4,#5,#6 and they're pretty much tied.
I finally decided on Metric/ Help I'm Alive (from eyebooger) as #6.
At first, I think Metric was better than the other 2 but after 5 listens they're tied.
So, Metric never improved while #4 and #5 improved enough to catch up to Metric.
That means that I keep on listening, Metric would begin to fade.
That ain't much to go on but I had to decide some way.
Now I have to choose between #4 and #5.
This one came down to speakers or headphones.
This song was equal when I listened through speakers. #4 got a slight nod when I listened with headphones.
So #5 is "halah" by Mazzystar (filthyvermin's pick).
I bought a Mazzystar LP back in the day but it never caught on. Nothing wrong with this but not great either.
So the #4 song that sounds good listening with headphones: Heavy Love Affair by Marvin Gaye (bolt2112's pick).
Where I grew up they never played Marvin Gaye on the radio. Black music consisted of the Holland-Dozier-Holland songs (Supremes & Four Tops).
Nice funky groove enhanced by headphones.
BRONZE MEDAL goes to Midnight Oil/Hercules, nominated by Bookerette.
This medal is almost totally due to Peter Garrett.
The band sounds good but it's the vocals that give it that extra boost into podium territory.
Also, good choice of videos as his spastic stage antics added even more to the enjoyment of the song.
SILVER MEDAL goes to Manic Street Preachers with Hold Me Like A Heaven (xander biscuit's pick).
Not an outstanding song but the whole thing gets moved way up by the backing vocals of "whoa oh oh".
So, why does a repeating backing vocal move this to #2 while Muna's "thump thump thump" gets them dropped to last? Dunno!
GOLD MEDAL goes to Here Comes The Rain by The Mavericks (Booker Wolfbox's pick).
The Mavericks are a favourite of mine so they had a huge head start even before I started listening.
And nobody could catch up.
Raul Malo was his generation's Roy Orbison.
Thanks to everyone who entered.
Anyone want to be the judge for Speed Walrus #3?
All you gotta do is sort out a bunch of songs in 48 hours.
I think I'll put a max entries of 10 for #3. I think that's as much as I can do within 48 hours.
Glad you enjoyed my song.
I'd not heard it before submitting.
I really like that band and just searched for a song with the right letter (it was the only one). I listened to it before submitting and thought it was decent, but not their best stuff.
