Average Speed: Dirty Dealings

The man entered the room cautiously. The room was dimly lit, casting deep shadows down the long hallway. What light there was got caught and refracted by the oppressive coils of cigarette smoke. The man chose his steps carefully, fearful of his shoe making a great calamity on the smooth marble floor and destroying the eerie silence of the grand hall.

“Eddie, my boy, come here. Don’t be shy.”

“Yes Papa.”

The balding man hurriedly kneeled before the frame of a wizened old man and pressed his lips against the cold steel (cold as death) of his family’s historic signet ring.

“Papa, your grandson, Tony is here. Why ya call me?”

“Who are you? Oh yes, Frankie’s son, ah? I have something to tell you. Listen closely, my boy, I will only say this once.”

“The ndranghetta are in trouble, my boy. The police are sniffin’ where they shouldn’t, where they never even dared in the past. My boy, our family has grown weak. Your father was weak, I always said so. He deserved that bullet in the guts, God bless his soul.”

“Papa, I’m strong, you’ll see. Gimmie a chance…..”

“Silence boy! Did I tell you to speak?”

“My long time mole in the police has given wind that they have integrated some of their premier agents in our society and are poised to flush out our dealings with our good friends in Bogotá, Bangkok and Constanta. We must be diligent, child. Flush out this disease and show the law enforcers and criminal scum alike that the very word ndranghetta is TERROR! Now get out of my sight, boy!!!

The “village” consists of a council of 16 ndranghetta members, one of the most feared and ruthless criminal organizations in the world.

The police have selected 5 secret agents and integrated them in all levels of the society years ago. The police have been gathering information now for years and are ready to come out and expose the thousands of crimes committed by the group from smuggling, to kidnapping, and of course, murder.

The ndranghetta, however, are well prepared and have 2 informants of their own high up in the NYPD. The police must find these men quickly before they are able to use the resources of their position to dig up information on who are the real undercover agents and leave them to the well documented “mercy” of the ndranghetta.

THUS, there are 16 “villagers” (ndranghetta members), 5 “wolves” (undercover policemen), and 2 “seers” (ndranghetta moles in the NYPD).
