SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I think I know e6 but they would probably think of 2 other words first, but considering we're talking of clueing p6 and p10 as the main thing maybe from there they could logic it?

E6 pretty good start. Agreed that p10 or p7 should get there just about every time.

F5 and f7 decent lead ins and/or confirmers as well. I’d probably say f5 is the better clue over e6 and f7.

I Niched my p7, it’s actually p6.

f5 is my first thought for EF options

it probably doesn't get them there because can hit a lot of things, but it ensures they get p10 and probably other options that we go for...so good confirmer but need to actually clue it first

I haven't figured out f5

I'm thinking the e6 route is the way ----> they'll think of p6 but since we're talking about it know that's not the target - will they be able to figure out p10 from it that we'd want to clue? it's a tough word but we'd be giving them a shot at least

e6 is fine with me as well; similar clue to p6 and gets in the domain enough

they may get it from just e6 if lucky or else we should be able to get it with 2nd clue

I think e6 is better than f5

All good for e6 should I fire?

Sure

eclair

None of the confirmers are coming to me. None.

This is what I got. An eclair is a French pastry. It's a dessert. It's stuffed with cream filling and has a chocolate layer on the outside.

Well p6 is probably pastry.

And all of them seemed to know what e6 is, so either it's pretty closely related to eclair or else some of them had a different e6 in mind.

E3 could be egg and the answer is cream. An egg cream is a drink that's fairly popular in the northeast US.

I'm not coming up with other qualifiers.

F5 could be flour and p10 could be patisserie, which all works well enough for bakery. Only problem with that is that I would think they'd normally pluralise eclair/pastry. No clue yet on other confirmers.

No p3 for pie on bakery.

I'm stuck on the fact that they all seemed good with e6 so this has to be fairly direct, doesn't it?

We know it's not pastry. And it's never France/French. What does that leave us with?
