SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.
Sign up with /in below if you want to play.
In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).
2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.
The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).
We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"
Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.
The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.
Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.
Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words
We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)
I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I don’t know that the target word necessarily skews European, just that Ervin was saying he knew about currants because of being European. Ervin also seems to have posted a different C7 than what Nich and D1iab were considering. D1iab indicated it’d be lesser-know to non-Americans, which I don’t think fits currant.
And the multiple meanings discussion I see was about a clue, not the target word.
If they somehow don’t know or think about c7 then I’m not sure how we come back before game ends
If we do c10/c8 then we def get another round or two this game
This also isn’t very confidence-instilling and it makes no sense to me why a (different) C7 was bolded instead of C10/8.
C10 could be chardonnay.
Maybe we’re overthinking it and it’s just grape?
I was thinking Nich’s “C10 is C10” thing could indicate something about specificity like how champagne is only champagne if it’s from that region, etc. But both Chardonnay and Cabernet are grape varieties, so maybe it’s not grape (because then both C10 and C8 would “actually be correct”).
And I doubt there’s a target on the list that’s “green grape.”
But since we have two related C clues and a B5 (berry), I’m kinda just feeling grape and then let’s see where they take us from there.
The only other thing I could think of with the “C10 is C10” thing would be white wine.
But if the target was white wine and they didn’t insta-clue Chardonnay that would be terribad SIDESing
Oh hey, the C7 that Nich and D1iab were discussing might be Concord.
I’m pretty much fully on grape at this point.
Ok lets do it grape
I think if its not grape itll he a pastry
Yeah concord was c7; was shocked when currant was the clue rather than concord; guess we were talking about different c7s
I don’t know currant, which is apparently a raisin or a berry but I don’t like raisins and am not a foodie or exotic fruit eater
u3 was uva
B5 was bunch
But Chardonnay is actually correct while Cabernet isn’t; Cabernet (wine) is concord (grape) while Chardonnay (wine) is Chardonnay (grape)
I’m not a drinker and somehow I saw that Cabernet comes from Concord grapes, which is wrong on a second look; so that’s why I thought my statement made sense while to others who knew Cabernet is made from Cabernet grapes thought it made no sense
Good stuff
Probably best to avoid stuff like this in the future. It made it clear Ervin was in fact thinking of a different C7 than you and D1iab. The context from previous posts made it easy to infer, but your statement confirmed it, which is too much imo.
Yeah, shouldn’t have posted shadowfax since we were both talking about a c7
He called my clue shadowfax recently so I was returning the favor, but shoulda waited
And they knew my proper noun also
But yeah, let’s leave all talk to after they make a guess
Nice job.
I knew ervin's c7 was gonna be currant lol. Was actually the first thing I thought of.

Ah, I see. I was thinking you must've thought I wanted to clue Concorde or something.
Round 20:
Cards used: 23
Guessers: zeus/nich
The Board:
T | UNKQ | B
The target word:
Someone rand a word from the sheet and send to d1iabol1cal, ibedrummin, amazingervin and bolt2112
sheets link:
NOTE: These are the final letter cards in the game
I've sent the new word to the crew.
Good news. It's a bink.
Yeah, just bold it and let’s move on
I don't want to bold a clue before the rest of the team even reads their DMs so I'll just let someone else do it. But I will say "Good job, team!"
If it’s so easy just bold and we can start the next round
Hopefully next round is more difficult
