SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.
Sign up with /in below if you want to play.
In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).
2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.
The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).
We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"
Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.
The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.
Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.
Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words
We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)
I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

Kiss would lead to beak
Maybe they forgot bird noses are on their beaks?
They woulda been focused on mouth and m not a letter
You think duck + kiss is the slam dunk D1iab was referring to in order to get beak?
Hunt just seems like so many words
Weapon
Winchester
Deer >> duck
Killing/killer
Dunno just doesn’t feel like hunt
But maybe all these other words aren’t just other birds kiwi quail etc
Whippoorwill could be w12 but not sure how that would help us
Weapon and Winchester lead to way more things way more quickly than hunt/hunter.
Duck/deer/quail/kill could’ve all been mentioned in the confirmers.
Duck + kill = hunt/er is more slam dunk than duck + kiss = beak imo.
I’m going to bed and I’d prefer they’re not still waiting on us tomorrow morning. Go ahead and bold what you want and we either win or get clued k4.
I’m on hunter>beak, but you’re the SIDES whisperer, and I’m fine with you taking the lead here.
I just think you go deer over duck if it’s hunt/hunter as that is much more common
And Deer Hunter movie is right there and Duck Hunt is right there
They seem to have clued tons of bird words and quack which is with the beak but not part of hunting
I’m gonna just say lack of nose is due to them thinking about mouth for beak because it’s easy to not think of their nose as being part of their beak
beak so we can move to next clue
unfortunately not
k4?
Sorry ibd
kill
Kill and not killer would be better for hunt and not hunter, yeah?
Duck + kill = hunt
Duck + killer = hunter
If it’s hunt, it was a real shame that Duck wasn’t capitalized.
yeah, Duck capitalized was a slam dunk Hunt guess last turn because it hit the other words harder than soup or dynasty
agreed they'd have to go killer instead of kill if it was hunter
i'm good with hunt if you are
Hunt
In b4 0%
Yeah, that's it. Do ducks even have beaks? I mean I guess they do, but still.
Obviously the intention was for duck to be capitalised there. Not sure what the hell ervin was doing.
W12 was Wilderpeople. Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a pretty well-known movie, but maybe you guys haven't heard of it.
Yeah
First instinct about no nose
+ ibd’s instinct about hunt
+ chance Ervin just forgot to capitalize
= shoulda gone hunt this morning
Yea oh well I didn't think it would matter but shoulda done it, you had alright guessed quail so I thought you were gonna get there easily
Would you have gotten it if I trolled with a Kittridge clue?
It’s ok; worth the extra card if it reminds everyone to capitalize
If you don’t when the word you clue and the target can be capitalized together then guessers are gonna assume that’s not the word because you declined to take the option to do so
Just to be super clear for future games, the word has to be exact, right? So hunter/hunting wouldn't have counted as correct?
