SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.
Sign up with /in below if you want to play.
In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).
2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.
The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).
We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"
Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.
The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.
Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.
Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words
We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)
I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

they had DLP as letter options; and could have hinted at BUNKQ words as well
they thought pelt was slam dunk
d3/L5 get directionally there, but need B5 to finish
L7 could be ok
so let's figure out at least 1-2 of those words to narrow us down between hide/fur/skin/throw/roadkill/hunt/trophy
besides being another 90s female band singing about death, L7 is likely Leather
so it's the hide/skin/fur/fleece/etc version of pelt, not the throwing version
Wouldn't there be other clues for other meanings of the word hide? The verb - like hide and seek. Maybe fur is better. But leather isn't even an ok clue if it's fur.
if it was skin or hide then leather seems better than ok
that's why fur/fleece are interesting to me
I think with 4 options, we need to figure out D3/L5/B5 to figure out which
could also be coat
d3 dog also points to fur, but it's probably not dog
no mention of bunker for hide but that doesn't mean much
maybe b5 is break, like you break a hide to soften it
not sure what d3/L5 would need 'break' to finish getting hide tho
if it's skin:
L5: loose
d3: dry
but why not d5 for dermis?
We don't have a compelling reason to go against our first instinct. Let's just bold "hide."
I kinda like skin because loose/dry/leather all hit it while we can’t think of a d3 or L5 for hide
I have no reason to feel strongly about either skin or hide above the other.
ok let's go hide
I got dry/loose connections for skin, but they didn't go dermis, which is the obvious (or peel) and pelt is closer to hide than skin
Not hide.
I think we gotta go with the d3 now.
Yes, no debating or delaying it
dog
So it was fur then
fur
Indeed it was
What was l5 and b5?
L4 for Lion or B4 for bear woulda had me on fur but I couldn’t think of L5 or B5
Or B3 for Boa
Haha, L5 was llama (terrible), B5 was brush. That’s why I said I’d just shut up. I was going to keep throwing out stuff that would confuse things.
Lion and bear fit skin better for me
Good clues
Coulda been any of hide skin fur on turn one and we just missed the d3 roll
Round 19:
Cards used: 24
Guessers: bolt/filthy
The Board:
B | UNKQ
The target word:
I've pmed the word to d1iabol1cal, doctor zeus, amazingervin, ibedrummin
NOTE: THESE ARE THE LAST 2 CARDS IN THE GAME
b7 could be a slam dunk 1-shotter
That works even though there are some other fun B ones 🙂
