This is a new game I thought of. It's inspired by an obscure clue that Nich gave in the "Sides" thread.
I'll give an obscure clue and a category for the answer. Whoever guesses it right can run with it and give the next clue. I suppose this game will work best with pop culture, but we'll see how it goes or if this thread takes off at all.

It was his final opera, he died before finishing. There’s a really great (probably largely apocryphal) story about when it premiered at La Scala. At a moment in the 3rd act, Toscanini cut off the orchestra, turned to the audience, and said “it was here the maestro put down his pen.” The story goes that the premier was left unfinished and the opera was performed in full the following night.
