2024 Summer Olympics from Paris

2024 Summer Olympics from Paris

Amazed we don't have a thread yet. I will do up a fancier OP tomorrow but this will do for now as a placeholder.

Women's softball opens the games in roughly 5hrs with soccer/football, archery and some other sports starting before the opening ceremony Friday night Japan time.

PREDICTIONS: Rona causes a stupid amount of issues, I still waste approx 100hrs of coverage anyway.

The mens 200m with Lyles, Bednarek, and Erriyon Knighton.

Still hoping Knighton can pull one out.

Quincy Wilson is a great story.

Sick bump

Sorry... I didn't want to start a new thread.

Rugby Sevens would be a top tier event to attend in person.

Running of any sort is obviously the most international event. They aren't playing tennis in the snow up in Canada or down in the sands of Mexico.

Plenty of top players have come from Canada, you picked a bad example. Tennis is a money sport, not so much a weather sport. Canada has plenty of indoor facilities, both public and private. It might be in the top 10 for top tennis countries lol. Racquets, balls, strings, coaching, and court time, tennis is expensive like golf. Poor people have easy access to sports like basketball and soccer.

I agree with everyone about swimming having way too many redundant medals. We don't have track events for running backwards, hopping, shuffling sideways, etc. why does swimming have all these suboptimal variations? I'm sure Michael Phelps was amazing, but no **** the most medals ever won were by a swimmer. It's impossible to win that many in anything else.

Swimming is also a terrible spectator sport. Even the best swimmers go slower than a person walking next to the pool. While you can't see their faces or any sort of emotion in the sport either. It's the nut low for athletic entertainment.

Except one of the GOAT moments came in swimming:

Agreed that there are too many damn variations though.

I am in love with swimming, and I stink at it. I get that it is slower. I dunno, I have no interest in running or sprinters. Very boring to me. I do like the occasional horse race for a race. I got those nail biting race vibes going last olympics, now I am really looking forward to it. It is weird, I admit it, but my heart starts beating lol, and I can only do the standard stroke in a pool without drowning.

If anyone does check it out. I am still learning....Obv.. we root for USA at all times like good people. Our apparent enemy is Australia, always. Every race, they are part dolphin and dangerous. I think on occasion we must be wary of wary of the english. But its those aussies...

all good people always root against usa

Do you guys want me to change thread title? Or does someone want to create a new thread for these Olympics?

Nothing beats 2000 still and the call for the last 50m

FWIW, I love swimming and think it might be the best exercise of all exercises. I just don't find much entertainment available in watching swim races compared to watching other sports.

Crazy sick Olympians. All of it. Synchronized diving is amazing. Wasn't expecting that. Even the off performances like the guy whose leg exploded before from the high bar and he's out there doing it again. I gotta nominate gymnasts as the GOAT athletes.

Olympics are more fun than I remember.

Had a great time watching swimming and gymnastics.

Imagine training your whole life for the moment!

Anyone know what the odds were for Fiji/France rugby?

Swimming should be 1 v 1

I like how the mic just caught Simone biles saying "what the f*ck was that" on live tv

YTTV multiview is a great way to watch the Olympics.

Can’t wait for the new kayak event. 4 competitors racing at once down the white water course. Carnage incoming

when is the 50km walk.

is the french diniz guy who famously expelled **** and blood out of his arse en route to olympic glory still competing?

I think he carried a torch. Not sure if he lit it by farting.

he's 46 years old so I'd say safe that he's not competing

It's walking. Kipchoge could probably qualify when he's 50.

Speaking of age, I was casually watching some female skateboarding today as it was on CNBC and one girl was 14 years old. Is that some kind of record??

A quick search shows that Zheng Haohao is 11.

Not sure if it's a record, but it's definitely close.
