2024 Summer Olympics from Paris
Amazed we don't have a thread yet. I will do up a fancier OP tomorrow but this will do for now as a placeholder.
Women's softball opens the games in roughly 5hrs with soccer/football, archery and some other sports starting before the opening ceremony Friday night Japan time.
PREDICTIONS: Rona causes a stupid amount of issues, I still waste approx 100hrs of coverage anyway.
St Lucia pop 178k (2018) they have 1 gold and 1 silver so far.
That is 1 gold per 89k. For AUS to equal that they would need to win 291 golds.
Dominica pop 72k has 1 gold, zero silver/bronze. They have best gold/pop, 2nd for [all medals]/pop.
Sure, but you'll need 341 more golds by Sunday to get the population ratio.
i'd guess Cuba has done pretty well historically. population 11 million. democratizing access to sports does a lot

Also their boxers are paid giant amounts to stay amateur….tbh are basically forbidden from going pro
Most famous example was Teofilio Stevenson and Felix Savon - both 3 times Olympic heavyweight gold winners who would have made squillions if they’d turned pro
NZ 3 golds 10 total, pop 5M.
All the lower seeds won in men's water polo. Us men in a decent spot.
Bracket mayhem!
Viva La France, facing off with the world champ GERMANS in mens bball today 1130am ET
it's between the pole vaulters and the heptathletes for 'best overall' position group among the female track & field competitors.
i do sometimes want to include the sprinters but while the good ones are great, the less good ones are a little too scary for the Aussie
Wemby !!!!!
Pretty excited for McLaughlin-Levrone VS Bol
Flavor flave and the US women's water polo you love to see it.
Bass for your face Paris
LOLyles
Used all his energy bouncing out of the tunnel
It looked like he relaxed the last 5 meters and still made 19.45? How do you not give it all, he was quite close to the WR and could have definitely beaten the legendary 19.32 from 1996

He looked very good. I'm not sure why the announcers are that surprised, he looked good in his other 200m runs as well as the 100m (except for the final and he still ran a 9.86).
umm random pakistani throws huge javelin olympic record??
india vs pakistan!
Has anyone ever medalled in both the triple and long jump at a single Olympics? Could be on here.
Reports that Lyles has Covid
Weird that he did all that messing around before the start - you’d think he would conserve energy
Track has been insanely entertaining this year, especially as an American
The 10k was one of the most fun races I've ever watched - freaking 13 guys broke the olympic record, and the finish was closer than a lot of sprints. Gold to Bronze was 0.32 seconds. 6th place was less than a second behind Gold. This is a half hour race!!!!
1500 was insane, Hocker's break down the final stretch was incredible
Steeplechase was a nailbiter
400 was incredible I watched it like 5 times and still don't understand how the American ran everybody down
100 was like the closest 100 ever
Gabby Thomas won the 200 in a total blowout
just insane races being run
bol so close!
