2024 Summer Olympics from Paris
Amazed we don't have a thread yet. I will do up a fancier OP tomorrow but this will do for now as a placeholder.
Women's softball opens the games in roughly 5hrs with soccer/football, archery and some other sports starting before the opening ceremony Friday night Japan time.
PREDICTIONS: Rona causes a stupid amount of issues, I still waste approx 100hrs of coverage anyway.
the non gazillionaire USA athletes are taking advantage of free healthcare in the Olympic village cuz it's too expensive at home
What an incredible game from start to finish
Curry with 36 points on 19 shots and only 3 at the line
Not sure how USA only managed 4 offensive boards to Serbia's 9. Felt like every missed shot would get volleyballed around until a Serbian guy came down with it
It would be uncouth to say the Serbian strategy was ******ed
Women's Breaking judging is rigged
wow random italian chick almost won the 10k
Crazy assist by the Spanish keeper in the goal medal match against France.
figured this warholm chap would be a huge fave in the 400 hurdles, but he's an underdog turns out
400m hurdles might be the worst event
dealing with that last hurdle after going flat out for 40 seconds. **** that
I'm just catching up and still having men's 400m hurdles left, but Hassan was bronze in the 5k, just bronzed in the 10k, and is running the marathon tomorrow?
EDIT: Sorry.... 36 hours?
I think the Algerian boxer is about to box. Olympic schedule says 5 minutes from now
Triple jump was very high quality
lol at USA men's 4x1. they should win every gold every time male and female but their teamwork is rarely good enough.
the women were lucky that the brits also messed up one of their changes. albeit Sha'carri was cold blooded on the anchor leg

Yeah it seems absolutely stupid, running that marathon would guarantee any mortal an injury rather than a medal and I cannot imagine it hasn't cost her quite a few seconds on 5k and 10k (but perhaps at 31 years old it is a conscious choice to transition away from the 1500)
The most shocking name i saw on the start list for me was Bekele who I feel I was watching battle Gebrselassie/Kipchoge/El Guerrouj/etc 20+ years ago

Has there ever been a female 5k, 10k, and marathon medalist in one Olympics?
She has nothing left to prove.
an epic and historic football final upcoming in an hour at Parc des Princes
- 38 year old BRA legend Marta is playing in her last international competition for her country. she has never won a WC or Olympics (including losing the gold medal matches to USA#1 in 2004 and 2008)
- the USWNT look to keep a good thing going under new manager Emma Hayes. the "Triple Espresso" front line of Smith, Rodman and Swanson (scorers of 9 of the U.S.'s 11 goals) look to impose themselves on BRA's defense
- i was hoping Hayes would swap out Albert for Rose in the starting XI. the U.S.'s midfield has been its clear weakness this tournament and Albert adds more bite and energy. well, great minds think alike as that change has been made
- U.S. defensive stalwart Naomi Girma looks to continue her dominating play. many are now calling her women football's best center-back
leggo USWNT! grab that gold
Brazilians suck so losing would be devastating
fwiw, 48 hrs ago the USWNT was -238 to win gold. right now they're -270
BRA has the midfield to spring the upset
