2024 Summer Olympics from Paris
Amazed we don't have a thread yet. I will do up a fancier OP tomorrow but this will do for now as a placeholder.
Women's softball opens the games in roughly 5hrs with soccer/football, archery and some other sports starting before the opening ceremony Friday night Japan time.
PREDICTIONS: Rona causes a stupid amount of issues, I still waste approx 100hrs of coverage anyway.
France couldn't hit a 3 for ****, but that rainbow 3 from Steph at the end was outrageous.
I never know what to think when Steph takes a shot like that. Everything in my body screams that it's a bad shot. He was double-teamed. He was off balance. There was enough time to get a good shot for Durant, or somebody else who is top-ten player in the world. But then he pulls anyway and makes it, just like he has done dozens of times in his career. It's just impossible to defend.
Steph is a one in a billion talent who ruined basketball by making people think they can do what he does
That shot was insanity
incredible.

Growing up playing basketball, I hit 4 3s in regulation games.
2 back to back in an already over game to show off. A game clinching shot I had no business taking. And my favorite where 2 people didn't come out to guard me and I shot a 3 out of spite.
In all my time there was only 1 other person who hit a 3 in a regulation game.
NOTHING LIKE HITTING A 3 THAT MATTERS
I'm glad to see that Curry has brought his lifelong habit of throwing in a couple of terrible turnovers per game to Olympic basketball.
Glad to see that Curry also brought his other lifelong habit of making 4 consecutive cold blooded threes of increasing difficulty with the game on the line to absolutely bury the other team
What an unbelievable final 2 games for him. 17/26 from three... that's 51 points on 26 shots, 96% eff shooting % lmao
Lebron just making big play after big play
Everybody busting their ass on defense and sharing the ball on offense
What an absolute treat to get to root for this team

Yeah. I doubt any other player has inspired so many "wait, wtf just happened in the last three minutes" sequences in the history of basketball. Imagine how deflating those sequences must be to opposing teams.
had lebron -150 to win mvp of this...didnt even know they had MVP of this thing until 5 days ago
only way that was gonna lose is if curry or KD did what curry just did
It's one of those "spot the thing that's out of place" photos.
In last 10 years or whatever my view on Curry has gone from "I absolutely hate this guy" to him being one of my top 5 players ever. Joe Dumars still #1.
can anyone find a vote for this? just curious how it broke down
dont see anything on twitter
i actually thought after those 2 games that Curry was going to win it...Just figured Curry going god mode in 2 close games in the medal rounds probably gonna weigh more than lebron going 16-9-8 in a blowout vs brazil 2 weeks ago or whatever
Gold's 39-38 China but USA has women's basketball lock so it's 39-39 entering the last day
no cheap ping pong or water dancing golds for China tomorrow
Blades -152 on FD
Sifan Hassan absolutely crazy
I'd love to see her training program and her recovery program because it blows my mind you can be competitive on a 5K and a 42K
Meanwhile we have people who win more medals than she did because they were able to remain the fastest over a hundred meter more of swimming or doing the same distance in a different swimming stroke
Very impressive by Hassan

It's kind of funny imagining how some of the more nonsensical events came about. Like some dude who couldn't win the long jump so he says "now we're gonna do 3 jumps". Why not double jump or quad jump?
Swimming is the worst offender obviously. It should've just been freestyle stroke at the usual distances, 100/200 etc. Along the way some dumbasses invented slower and goofier ways to swim and now they're all medal events? Track should just invent the 100 meter skip, 100m jump on 1 leg, and 100m run backwards to even the playing field. Imagine how sick the mile medley would be where you have to complete one cycle running, skipping, hopping on 1 leg, and running backwards.
Track already has the hurdles which is basically as silly as some of the swimming ones.
And of course the race walking is ridiculous.
In the early Olympics there was a standing long jump and a standing high jump and also (after checking, a standing triple jump).
USA benefited as they had the GOAT standing jumper Ray Ewry, who won 8 golds in standing jump events over 3 games between 00 and 08
