The NHL Thread
For the 5 of us who post NHL stuff, here you go. Officially the season starts Tuesday October 11, although there were tw
can't believe this doesn't have a dedicated thread
Draft at the Sphere is pretty wild. Not sure how you top that as a venue for that.
Tyler Myers (D) - 53% xg
Jun 27, 2024 - Signed a 3 year $9 million contract extension with Vancouver (VAN)
Dakota Joshua (C) - 57% xg, 3rd on team
Jun 27, 2024 - Signed a 4 year $13 million contract extension with Vancouver (VAN)
Theodor Blueger (C) - 59% xg, 2nd on team
Jun 27, 2024 - Signed a 2 year $3.6 million contract extension with Vancouver (VAN)
Filip Hronek (D) - 53% xg
Jun 18, 2024 - Signed an 8 year $58 million contract extension with Vancouver (VAN)
again i don't exactly get what they see in hronek, both the stats and eyetest say he's meh. i imagine they'll regret that at some point, or to be more accurate, the next gm will. and the stats say that myers isn't that bad, but gods does he often eyetest like ****, very gaffe-prone. he's probably worth $3m/year? idk. and with joshua & bluegar they seem to be agreeing about the importance of xg, two bottom-6 players who really drove the play last season.
burned yet another 2nd round pick to unload mikheyev (54% xg) and $4m of his contract that thet never should have signed in the first place in order to make all this happen. he's not bad, but just a quick a bottom-6 winger with no hands making too much money.
overall they're making ok moves, which is a trillion percent improvement over benning, the canucks will probably be decent again next season and be the ~10th fav for the cup or whatever. hoo-ray
also, til that the 1st round of the draft is today. who knew, wattba etc
Canucks signings are great.
Joshua is best signing they did.
Myers had a good year/postseason. His previous years were terrible. He's getting paid 50% of what he used to make. If he plays like he did this year it's good.
Blueger is fine. Cheap enough and low term.
Hronek needs to be better. He should be the best of the bunch, but needs to up his game to justify that pay.
Nucks heading in right direction.
Listened to 32 thoughts pod and that got me amped up for some player movement. Hope some weird wild **** happens at draft. But FA starts Monday
celebrini good times san jose, come on
the russian kid that the hawks took #2 is already going bald lol
ducks appeared to melt the face of the kid they picked at #3, looked like he was saying "omg omg wtf" lmao
his family is stunned too
i guess this was a reach?
edit: yeah looks like everyone mocked him at spots 10+
Love that the clock counting down to the next pick apparently means **** all. Welcome to the NHL
celine in the hizzy to make the habs pick, ultci

and they pick some russian kid that big bobby mack ranked #2

also, lol calgary
Tig Iginla eh, ESPN graphis?
chokez add an almost 6'3" point per game dman who big bobby mack ranked #6 ... maybe they won't suck eventually
philly flyboys making a trade here?
Flyers breaking all 2p2 draft rules here. DONT NEGOTIATE ON THE CLOCK
lol, ban this sick filth
all that to move 1 spot? gtfo
and then they sit there for like 2 minutes after making the trade
goddamn this **** is so pointlessly tedious
Loool, all that for this crap trade
Now I like the Flyers, but the only acceptable outcome for this is Buium becoming a "how did this guy fall so far" kind of star while the Flyers draft some guy that never makes the NHL
Lol. FLYERS.
Should've traded way down. Or simply taken Buium
The Michael Buffer bit was pretty good though. Might upgrade my wish to a solid 3rd liner.
VGK drafts some neo-nazi guy in the 1st round 👍 but apparently he has some talent so nbd
