Kinda hilarious how much hate Clark is getting from other players in the league considering that almost nobody even cared about the WNBA before she got drafted. Last years finals averaged 700k viewers (and that was the highest in 20 years). Clark's first regular season game had 2.1mil viewers. Would be funny if she said F that and just bounced for Big3 or something to put the WNBA back to total irrelevance.

WNBA fame is 90% Marketing / 10% Basketball.

people will hate on her online and then inevitably there will be backlash to the backlash and she just gets to be this like villain type figure that has a following rather than just being another solid wnba player that is completely irrelevant

It's almost the same thing as in the Stanley Cup finals were both Florida and Edmonton have scored 12 goals over 4 games. Pretty sure most people who watched game 4 in the NHL got strong vibes from the NBA game the night before.

i think the wnba goes back to rotting sooner than later either way

cc will make way more from sponsorships via wnba than she would being a novelty in the big3 where it's quite possible she gets embarassed vs retired nba players and struggles with the big ball

i can see why big3 wants her so bad, it'd really put them on the map from niche but with a tv deal to mainstream

if the wnba is smart, they'll start putting a protective halo around her, possibly even change some rules in the offseason to give her a little bit more space to operate

like i know of 3-4 wnba rookies this year because of her and before i'd have been hard pressed to name more than 1-2 wnba players and that's only because my dad is a big uconn fan and it wasn't that i even knew if they were in the nba, i just kind of guessed that they probably are

Unlikely because it's basically the same corporate sponsors that force other sports like tennis to have equal pay even though viewership of the female version is obviously a fraction of the male version.
