Lettuce NBA!
and lettuce lol @ James Harden
What an awful playoffs overall
Knicks Sixers was the best series. Outside of that... craptastic playoffs
Jason Terry ain’t walking through that door
Is Tatum going to share the trophy with the rest of the team?
Tatum probably 4th best Celtic in this series. Fraudulent superstar.
Is this the only time in NBA history where a “superstar’s” rep probably took a hit by winning their first title?
Eduardo Najera ain’t walking through that door
Erick Dampier ain’t walking through that door
Dirk and Steve Nash ain’t walking through that door with frosted tips
Calvin Booth ain’t walking through that door
Fraud though
Sean Rooks ain’t walking through that door
this is so conflicting because i hate boston and all their teams, but i kind of like tatum, brown, jrue ... maybe some others. and it'd be nice if horford got a ring so that stockton & malone remained the biggest losers oat
most playoff games without a rang, they're the 3 leaders per the broadcast last night
he'll pass stockton this series, and prob both if the celtics lose in the final iirc
if you're looking for a silver lining, big al won = stockton & malone remain the biggest losers oat
thought tatum clearly deserved mvp, he's the best player on the team, gravity/impact is a thing
given hes clearly known as the best player + led the team in pts boards dimes maybe just give him the mvp?
only player in nba history to lead in all 3 major categories and not win...for what? because jaylen went 21-5-5? if you didn't watch the series and heard brown won based on their #'s, you would think he hit 2 buzzer beaters
Brown.
Fitting name to end the season.
The colour of ****. Poo poo.
Which is what this finals was.
I will forever root against Luka.
only other comment i got on series is i think nba needs to reconsider the spacing between games for the finals
something like 1 day rest between home games and 2 days rest between travel days
series just has no momentum with these long times off and no games on weekends is stupid too
good luck to those who shelled out for the new tv deal...this stuff just doesnt feel as big as it did 5 years ago
Came for the tears, did not disappoint
I remember clearly the season of Jerry West's only NBA championship as a player. The Celtics are kind of hounding him even in his death season, it seems, in winning it this year. Anyway, Russell was gone now, in 1972, and the Lakers set both the consecutive win streak of 33 games and the GOAT 69 total wins, the record the Mike and the Bulls were after years later when chasing 70. In the playoffs that year West, known as Mr. Clutch yet 0-for-7 in the finals to that point (can you imagine that combination in today's media?), slumped very poorly shooting. I remember the announcers railing on it. Just looked it up: 32% from the field in the finals. 35% in the semi-finals. Then the next season back to the finals and a loss ending 1-8 in the finals. Tons of heartbreak as a player. So West was MVP of Russell's last series playing super in loss, as he often did, but when he finally won it he was palying horrible. Then, what 8 titles in the front office?
The NBA is getting worse, not better. Is major problem.
Here's the 4th Quarter of Russell's last game, Game 7, 1969 NBA Finals. West had 42 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists. Jones, Russell, Chamberlain, and Havlicek all had 5 fouls with a lot of the 4th quarter left. "Rebound by Chamberlain" was almost just on repeat in those days, comically so. He got the rebound on the famous injury play, couldnt run down court, stayed at the D end, then the Celtics came down and shot again, "Rebound Chamberlain." Time out Chamberlain.
The 48 minute per game man stayed in. Could hardly move. At the next break Counts comes in for him. They dogged him ever after for it. Now he's on the bench and as the doctor examines the knee he writhes around. Counts throws in a 20 footer to cut what was once a 17 pt lead to 1, but is called for traveling. Then he throws in a 15-footer to cut it to 1, 103-102. Then a slew of turnovers on both sides, when Nelson hits the loose ball scramble richocet off the top of the backboard basket.
The Lakers missed 19 FT's in a 2-point loss. Any team ever missed 19 FT's in a playoff game before, in a finals game, in a Game 7?
The NBA is between eras, imo.
LeBron, Steph and KD are shuffling off the stage. The stars and the narratives of the coming 10 years have yet to be fully defined. Without those narratives, the whole thing feels flat.
People want the Joker narrative, or Wemby or Ant or whatever. An uber dominant Boston Celtics machine winning with ease doesn't touch the sides.
In saying that, I reckon history will be very kind to this Boston title. They were incredibly dominant all year end to end. It's not their fault nobody got near them at any stage of the season.

Jerry West died just to avoid having to watch this. He got one last W in
