2024 F1 Season.
Seeing as no one has started a new thread yet I thought I would.
Will Max win everything again?
Has Lewis made the right decision to switch?
When will Horner get sacked?
Is 24 races far too many?
Predictions for the season?
Mine is Perez will get replaced mid way through the season and Lando will actually finally win a race
last 5 or so races have been absolutely great
can pia and russ get to the end??
Everything is going right for Lewis
Meanwhile Max & Norris always seem to be stuck behind a fast car
dont remember which year(s) it was, but we had at least one season where staying out and going long was the right call basically every single time, lewis used to get on the radio every race like 'these tyres wont make it to the end man', but was wrong literally every time and whoever risked it got rewarded
maybe the same here? lewis isnt exactly eating up the distance between him and george
merc on merc violence and toto punching things seems not impossible in these last couple of laps
wow
That was unexpected. Fair play to Russell
Spa is the GOAT circuit
bookies got their in-play completely wrong, george was 12/1 to win it with about 6 or 7 laps to go. i didn't go for it however
basically any one of the top 8 drivers (maybe not perez) would've won that with a 1 stop, weird in hindsight that everyone got it so wrong
on the 2nd stops, lewis was leading and leclerc 2nd. leclerc pitted, and lewis covered the undercut on the following lap despite having fine tyres
he didn't need to cover it off immediately because leclerc's stop was slow and ****. lewis came out 3 seconds ahead of leclerc
could've stayed out for at least one, maybe a couple more laps. likely cost him the race
Last few races have been fun, spa is awesome.
Russell 1.5kg underweight, DSQ incoming.
lol
How does that exactly happen. I assume the weight is measured without tires?
Would be a lame way to lose a win, but then again, with 1.5kg more he isn't winning
i think you lose a bit of weight from the floor as it scrapes against the ground, and the comms noted that people were taking it easy through eu rouge early on so as not to take too much off their floor off. maybe its that
interesting that they weighed it once and it was exactly the correct weight, then found later that there was a bit of fuel left in it. sounds to me like merc were being dodgy
Partially he lost 3.3 lbs of rubber running so long on tires... he should have driven around the course looking to pick up gumballs and debris

dude... there MUST BE fuel left in it. it's part of the fundamental rules that there MUST BE enough fuel to conduct a test post race to look for banned substances. I think it is 1 litre.
in that case when they weighed it the first time and it was bang on 798kg, why wasnt it immediately obvious that he was underweight
'the car was not fully drained according to the draining procedure, contrary to the legality document submitted by mercades. the car was weighed a second time and found to be underweight'
dodgy

Yah, looks like another race that McLaren has thrown away. Piastri had 1 lap fresher tires than Russell (who seemingly made it easily on 1-stop) and was way faster than Russell and had built a 5.5s gap on Russell and 13.5s gap on Lewis by lap 30 of 44. Why not just roll the dice there and try a 1-stopper?
Also, does anyone think that if Lewis was sticking w/Merc for next season that Merc just tells Russell to move aside and maybe Lewis to keep him in DRS for a bit to cover Oscar? In-race it seemed like the pass was inevitable (as evidenced by the in-race betting lines) and by having them race each other, it almost allowed Oscar to pip 1 or both of them.
I think hindsight is a bit too easy here, if you look purely on a time per lap basis, the calculations for the 2-stopper were right.
Anytime a driver trailed another who was on one less pit stop, they were catching almost 1sec a lap. The lead of Russel melted as predicted on Lewis. Free air was king as stated Piastri
I think what was maybe less expected is that the overtaking would be this difficult for whatever reason
Sergio and Redbull have a meeting tomorrow morning...
Really fun race. Great to have something close to parity after 3 years of RB dominance. Feel really sorry for George though
Last year DRS too powerful, this year not powerful enough so too many DRS trains but still a great race. Mercedes definitely tried to pull a fast one on the weight by leaving in some extra fuel which also means they knew he was underweight by 1.5 kg. This sort of kills the theory it was extra weight loss from the tires as Mercedes can't predict that this accurately.
Checo in his interview stating that the degradation was quite high.
Someone finished first with a one-stopper, dude.
If they are going to keep Checo in this seat, it is because Daniel or Tsunoda aren't going to be better. Not because what Perez is doing is anywhere close to OK.
So if George does another pitstop and puts on fresh tires that weight more, he would have escaped disqualification? I find that a bit weird.

Catching and passing are different things entirely and it wasn't completely unexpected for McLaren later in the race b/c they already had great data from their own car. When Norris went super long on that first stint he came out of the pits 6.4s behind Max and was in DRS range in 6 laps and then spent the rest of the race not being able to pass. From that McLaren could've deduced that Oscar would've had a reasonable shot of hanging on for the win.
