2024 F1 Season.
Seeing as no one has started a new thread yet I thought I would.
Will Max win everything again?
Has Lewis made the right decision to switch?
When will Horner get sacked?
Is 24 races far too many?
Predictions for the season?
Mine is Perez will get replaced mid way through the season and Lando will actually finally win a race
Lando getting his win was well deserved. You need to be in the right place to make use of a lucky safety car but that is just part of the sport. Max not being able to keep up after the safety car means Lando fully deserved it.
Lando was only up 11.5 seconds on Max and 14.5 on Leclerc when the yellow flew, but somehow increased the gap to 30 by the time he actually pitted under the Safety Car. If he had actually been picked up properly by the SC, then he might've come out 3rd and for sure should have been behind Max after pitting. I'm glad he won, but that's odd.
That is what yellow flags and safety cars do to time differences. He was always going to come out ahead of Verstappen.
What Checo did in turn 1 should be a 5 or 10s penalty
It was miraculous that he didn't cause a collision

Certainly it's better to pit under safety car if possible, but the average time lost is still 14 seconds. Lando wasn't even 14 seconds clear of Leclerc in 3rd so it's likely he would've come out 3rd, or at best 2nd. You're supposed to maintain the gap between cars under SC/VSC. You don't just get to drive off and turn an 11 sec gap into 30.
Noone cares b/c we're all happy Lando won, but if the roles were reversed and Max stole a win from Lando like this then I'd imagine there would've been a massive uproar and possibly positions given back b/c of the error.
lol

The gaps immediately get much larger under a safety car because they're going slower so the same distance between cars obviously takes longer to cover. A 10s gap before the safety car is closer to 20s under the safety car, which would have been more than enough for Lando to come out still in 1st.
As for the safety car picking up Max instead of Lando that was obviously a bit weird and why the gap went to ~30s instead of the natural ~20s but it happened because Lando had just gone past the pits when the safety car came out so was naturally just ahead of it. If the safety car had come out 10s sooner then Lando would have gone into the pits immediately, still almost certainly come out ahead, and the safety car would probably have picked him up correctly.
100% safety car coming up right away, I promise.
Checo is done. Failing to get into Q3 yesterday sealed his fate. Think Sainz or Yuki gets Checo’s seat.
(No source btw, pure speculation)
Well that was rather boring
truly dull
perez out in q1 at monaco
why wait
They would never do it but Yuki should take Checo’s seat now. Why put constructors at risk? It’s not locked like last year.
jesus christ perez's car looks like its been through a car crusher
i havent seen the incident yet. think hes alright
Alpine doing Alpine things.
Can Oscar ever make a good start to a race?
Logan Sargeant has been outqualified by teammate Yuki 29 out of 29 times. However, he's outqualified Checo 5 times in that stretch.
Amazing stat.
We’ve had some boring Monaco races. It that might be the most boring Monaco race
I feel like the first lap incidents mean it can't have been the most boring ever but it certainly did seem like literally nothing happened in the other 76 laps. I guess something threatened to happen when Hamilton and Verstappen pitted but that interest fizzled within a lap of Verstappen catching Russell when it became immediately obvious he wouldn't get past despite having closed the gap at 2s a lap.
Brutal to watch. Follow the leader in circles for 76 laps. They must do something in Monaco. So stubborn.
With unlimited money and geniuses in F1, amazing they aren’t willing to get creative and do something.
Different compounds, more pit stops is obv idea but another would be widening the track to allow overtaking. Spend a few hundred million, make few kms of elevated roads just for the Grand Prix week.
Their bottomless budget can allow for outta this world creativity to make the boring race better.
I was kind of hoping there was a forced pit stop for every driver post-restart to make the race more interesting.
Leclerc got to win his home race so now just take it off the calendar for a couple of years. A race where the only important messages from race engineers was to tell racers to go slower is just stupid.
i dont think f1 can just ditch the event - the history is money, and watching the cars go around monaco is still the coolest visual going
but they should do something radical
maybe abandon the race entirely and just make it some sort of two day quasi-qualifying event where cars come in and go out whenever they like, and the average of your ten best lap times determines your finishing position
then to finish the weekend we have a golden lap competition where each car goes out for one lap only, one at a time, order determined randomly, and the fastest golden lap gets 10 pts, second gets 6 etc
Another suggestion: must use 3 tyre compounds at Monaco (in a dry weather race). Would that help? The biggest chance to gain or lose a position is due to pitstops rather than on-the-track passing.
But what Monaco races really need is rain.
Snooze fest... but at least Ferrari won.
It's not about speed and being to fast, because they haven't... but the cars have just gotten to fat for that track. It's time to retire that race.
Special half-sized cars.
