2024 MLB Season Thread
Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.
Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:
-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.
If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.
In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?
T-Mobile is giving away a free MLB.tv subscription ($149 value) to T-Mobile subscribers starting TOMORROW (Tuesday 3/26 - April 1). Don't miss out.
So speaking of gambling, here are the current best odds for the World Series you can find, from Vegas insider!
ESPN was asking players about their favorite story with their dads.
They're doing the in game interview with Tristan Cassas on the Red Sox and he said he remembers being 6 years old not wanting to go on the field to play defense. His dad grabbed him by his shirt and "looney toons kicked "him on the field and some crazy woman called the cops on him and had his dad arrested.
Said he saw his dad thrown in the cop car.
And he's glad his dad did it.
They definitely weren't expecting that story hahaha
God damnit
wow that sucks
My first time at Coors Field tonight tho
and the dodgers are losing by 4 so that’s cool
great place to see a game especially during summer at night....the weather is so nice and the surrounding area is great for pre and post-gaming. hope u enjoy the experience.
fun fact I saw the rockies play at mile high stadium a couple of times when I was in college. that placed sucked for viewing baseball tho. we smuggled in beers once (cans) and they got confiscated by ahole security right after I cracked my first one open 😡
I just watched Shohei obliterate a poor baseball
Coors is great. I can't imagine having their setup as an owner and refusing to field a competitive team.
This is ridiculous
Ball hit the pole right behind our heads
that's why you never leave a coors field game early lol. no lead is ever safe there.
gotta give a massive lol to the bums the rockies pitched in the 9th inning. although it sounds like the guy that hit the game winning HR should have been rung up on strikes right before he hit the HR.
Only one player has ever gone 40-40-40 (homers, doubles, steals). Ohtani has an outside chance this year. Hard to believe he is going to run that much but outside chance of it (he's 20-22-16 now).
Who is the player?
** Caveat on this stat. I usually count triples as a "stretched double") in this kind of stat, and if you do that, there are two 40-40-40 players in history. And one more that missed by only a single double/triple with 39.

hard to imagine seeing a more entertaining Rockies game for my first time at Coors Field

Just saw the highlights of Randy Johnson's 20K game. Four times the strikeout pitch was in the dirt and thrown out at first. They should have let them have first, he might have struck out 24 and had four 4-K innings.
Willie Mays dedication / Negro Leagues appreciation game on Fox: Giants vs. Cardinals
Giants let folks in to watch the game from the field, was pretty cool:
Can't these whores not have the Nike logo on the jerseys for one night.
and the good guys win the Willie Mays / Negro Leagues tribute game
Really great broadcast
Baseball is the best
He did give up two dingers, but very impressive.
Since pitch tracking began in 1988, Ober is only the second pitcher to throw fewer than 90 pitches in a nine-inning complete game while striking out 10, joining David Cone. Cone struck out 10 Montreal Expos and threw 88 pitches in his perfect game on July 18, 1999.

I'd like to think this was an old school performance allowed by a manager who saw his team's bullpen implode last night. but I know Ober would have been yanked if he had gone over 90 pitches so nvm.

...and the other way these games go in the good guys favor sometimes like tonight...
WASH enters the bottom of the 9th inning with a 7-6 lead:
result: lose 8-7. the bum WASH sent out there in the 9th inning had this stat line:
0 IP
4 hits
1 BB (and it happened on a 3-2 pitch when he got charged for a ball on a pitch clock violation)
Mets got that MOJO!
there was some extra MUSTARD on that SALAMI !!!
All rise!!
WTH was Ohtani doing with his bat? He rounds first and still has the bat in his hand. Not sure I've seen that before. When players start doing weird things with their bat, it looks suspicious. Like maybe he felt it crack and was worried about it?? Meanwhile he misses first or thinks he did and has to go back and touch it. Remember when McGwire hit #62 ... he missed first and had to go back and touch it. Point: something huge was in Ohtani's mind when he forgot how to run the bases, i.e. you touch the bases and you don't carry your bat. Weird. Just saying.
Obv realized he had taken the under.
