2024 MLB Season Thread
Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.
Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:
-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.
If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.
In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?
T-Mobile is giving away a free MLB.tv subscription ($149 value) to T-Mobile subscribers starting TOMORROW (Tuesday 3/26 - April 1). Don't miss out.
So speaking of gambling, here are the current best odds for the World Series you can find, from Vegas insider!
Every top team has such big leaks, or what will be big leaks when their top SPs get burned out by playoff time. I'm going to take a flyer on CLE just because I don't know much about them(or anything), but they look pretty balanced on paper.
Aaron Judge is the 1st player to 7 fWAR.
7 WAR makes you an MVP candidate, but we are only 2/3 of the season in.
Gunnar, Witt, and Soto are closely behind.
This is a historically strong AL MVP race. You've got the best hitter on the planet, Judge with his ridiculous 212 wRC+, another top-3 hitter in Soto (both Soto and Ohtani are at 190 wRC+) and two superstar shortstops.
lol Dave Roberts pulled Ryan pitching a very solid game 2 outs in the 6th, just to let Vesia give up a 2 run dong on the first pitch.
How much do you guys think Uncle Steve Cohen will offer Soto?
600M !?
14 years $560 million.
No shot in hell the yankees let Soto walk no matter what it costs to keep him
Another matter altogether it Soto doesn’t like playing in New York I guess but if you’re the Yankees besides judge he’s the one dude you can’t afford to lose
Ohtani only got on base once today, but took stolen base 27 when he did. Barring injury, I think he's a 40/40 lock this year.

You’re underestimating the level of **** you money Uncle Steve has and how he will not be outbid.
He also hasn't shown a willingness to vastly overpay for players.
Boston needs to make sure this happens..
Mets won a close one tonight vs the Twins. I really wasn’t sure they’d be able to pull out the victory. Phew.
letting McCann stay in the game after taking 95mph off the face and bleeding all over himself and the batter's box feels like negligence. at least they were kind enough to stuf his nose with cotton while his left eye slowly closed as he caught 9 full. one tough mofo
Tweet of vid in spoiler... made me jump out of my seat watching him getting drilled like that.
Throwing strikes to Judge tonight again. See what I'm talking about? 😀 Don't they have a scouting report?
Aaron Judge about to win player of the month for the 3rd straight month.
April: .207/.340/.414 6 HR
May: .361/.479/.918 14 HR
June: .409/.514/.864 11 HR
July: .312/.480/.649 8 HR
Season: .315/.446/.696 39HR 99RBI.
We are still in July. Best hitter since Barry Bonds and it's not close at this point.
Also, Steven Kwan's batting average has been slowly dropping, so Judge could very well win the triple crown, which he almost did in 2022.
Yeah, but that incoming injury that's always around the corner for him. I'm not rooting for it, just saying Judge is still a coinflip for MVP. Witt is a decent bet.
How much money do you want to put on it?
I'll take Judge for AL MVP.
You can have the field.
I don't feel like rooting for him to get injured. I'll do something about him and the Yankees offense and/or the team shitting the bed the in the playoffs.
Orioles adding Efflin and Trevor Rogers this weekis pretty big, but more regular season depth guys the next couple years not shutdown playoff types like Skubal, Crochet(although dude announced no relief appearances), Flaherty, Tanner Scott.
So you were talking out of your ass when you said he's a "coinflip for MVP?"
Yes, of course you were.
Ohtani steals a base (1st inning) for the 4th straight game.
NL
1st in home runs
Tied 3rd in doubles
Tied 6th in triples
3rd in walks
Tied 3rd in stolen bases
1st in runs
2nd in RBI
2nd in hits

Best DH season ever?
I don't want to see Judge win the Triple crown cause I'm a Tigers fan. But seeing Shohei win it simultaneously would be cool af.
