WNBA 2024
angel reese is giving Caitlin Clark a run for rookie of the year
she's amazing at rebounding, great at defense, good at passing, bad at shooting.
you don't have to be great at every aspect of the game to be a dominant player.
its also crazy to be 22 years old, and getting the kind of hate she gets online. most of it racist hate

I mean, you DO have to be good at most aspects of the game in order to be a "dominant" player, and you certainly can't be dominant if you're one of the worst shooters in the league, but she's a rookie and she will be fine. WNBA season starts right after the college season, so she hasn't even had a real offseason as a pro to improve her game, I am sure she will be fine.
Regardless of any of that, she's clearly a marketing genius. The fact that she's managed to brand herself as CC's main foil is just a masterstroke.
i'm sure cameron brink would be even more famous if she posted things like this when she was in college

Her rebounding is the best part, only part that she shows consistent effort. However rebounding in the WNBA is most players just standing around with minimal boxout/board crashing.
Her defense is fine, but the lack of effort is often there. See final play vs Aces. Again it's mostly her size that helps, but it's far from special.
Some commentator was talking nonsense about how she taught herself to shoot... It shows. She should be forced to do the Mikan drill every practice for 20 minutes minimum. You don'y seriously evolve your offense later in life. My favorite saying was practice makes permanent. She has to unlearn years of shitty technique getting by offensively due to her size/motor.

I'm not that knowledgeable about basketball. was that really a low effort play from her? I watched that play several times. to me it seemed like it was a really good play from the aces and plum(the girl who ran the screen and got obliterated in the previous game by chenn for 34 points)
plum did a great job of getting in between angel and aja. also angel's teammate got in the way too.
let me see if I can find the play and post it here. I could be totally wrong

looked to me like there wasn't anything really she could have done, no?
Hmm, maybe not get caught staring at the inbound pass as Wilson makes her move towards the basket, completely losing her. Also, fight through the illegal screen and make the refs make a call. Poor positioning to start. So plenty...

She has to start passing after Orebs, she never does and being a 40% shooter inside 5ft and taking 10+ shots will just tank teams.
Players rarely make the huge leap when the mechanics are as bad as hers, it's why she went 7th. She's a rookie but she's peaking already.
when you're a big, aren't you supposed to generally shoot right away when you rebound under the hoop?
and even if she's shooting 40% or whatever, she's still getting fouled or rebounding her misses.
it's gotta be good ev for her to generally put it right back up when she rebounds it under the hoop, right?
What is going on with the Aces?
2-4 since the Olympics, including losses to Chicago and Dallas
getting absolutely dominated on the glass - rebounding 12.8% of their misses (26/203) and giving up 27% on on the defensive glass (57/209)
Is it just post-Olympic hangover?
They're now basically locked in to the 4-5 game even if they scoop the 3 games against Conn and Min
Could be a 2/7 and 3/6 preview tonight with Conn @ Indiana and Minn @ Phoenix.
Conn is -3.5 and Minnesota is -4.5
It goes back to a youth basketball comparison. There's plenty of times where it's just her under the hoop with 3 or 4 defenders. That's not high EV for success, hence the learning to pass out to open teammates for open 3s which is a better scoring chance.
someone tweeted that Chicago practice was cancelled yesterday cuz they're all sick. interested to see how they play tonight.
i'd bet it if I wasn't so lazy, and the line was right. I didn't even check the line.
It will be those matchups but you have the 2/7, 3/6 backwards. MN is going to finish as 2 seed and Phoenix is going to fail to 7th
Conn and Min are both projected at 28.5 wins, and Conn has the tiebreaker
I have PHX at 20.5 wins and IND at 19.8, but IND has the tiebreak
both races are gonna be super close
Elite reffing at the end of IND/CON:
With ~90 seconds left, IND by 2. Phantom off foul takes an IND 3 off the board.
With 24 seconds left, IND by 2, IND D forces a loose ball under the basket, but it CLEARLY goes off the Indy defender. Nah, IND ball
On the inbound at mid court with ~18 seconds left, IND player gets the inbound and falls down. Foul on CON. Reviewed and correctly overturned, but since there's nothing, it's Indy's ball side out.
LeBron would have these scrubs fired mid game.

to answer this question as a "big" when I played as a ute, yes u are never supposed to dribble when u get an offensive rebound. Go back straight up with a shot. When I played in high school, this was extra reinforced with running line drills if u couldn't make said layups or very short shots. U learned quickly to get better at these kinds of shots....
if Reese is really shooting 40% with that many offensive rebounds, that is truly awful and worthy of being made fun of (in a non-racist way obv).

Yeah ugly stuff, the awfulness mostly washes out since it went both directions
Indy 13-7 in their last 20, they could definitely upset a team in the playoffs
serious question...who will be the first WBNA player to get a song exclusively named for her and be somewhat mainstream? Like this:
or have I missed this song???
Please advise...

big step towards 2/7 being min/phx and 3/6 being conn/ind last night
ind gained a full game on phx, min gained a full game on con
somebody on the sky legitimately just shot an airball on a layup, and like, it wasn't even a close airball
I've nver seen that in my life before

I know the play you're talking about and I saw same thing last game I watched. It's like the closer they get to the basket the less likely the ball goes in the net. I will also say that 90% of the time they try a shot near the basket they get fouled and it's called about 20% of the time.
