English Premier League 2024-25

2024-2025 EPL Preview

Man City have set another record with 115 charges of financial shenanigans and also managed to win a 4th PL title in a row becoming the first team to do so narrowly beating out arsenal who took it to the last day this year. They accomplished this by rattling off an absurd 33 games unbeaten in all competitions making it 6 titles in 7 years for the Citizens.

Some pictures from the aftermath:

Season Preview:
Man City and Arsenal have distanced themselves as the clear favorites for the title. With Arsenal closing the gap and beating Man City on xG could this be the year that they get over the line? There are some large error bars on Liverpool with klopp retiring and Salah getting older, will they be able to insert themselves in the title race again like they did last year?

For top 4/5 can Aston Villa repeat last years feat thanks to the normal culprits being completely incompetent or will one of Chelsea/United get their **** together finally (hopefully not)? Spurs went full Spurs throwing the match vs City to stop arsenal from winning the title while costing themselves top 4 in the process, will they be in the race again despite doing no business at all in the summer to address squad needs?

The relegation fight as usual has the 3 promoted teams as favorites to go back down, but with PSR looming in the background could we see a surprise team relegated?

Anyone have Porro glancing header for first goal of season?

Don't see many of those lol, full backs don't run across the box like that too often

Feel like spurs probably good value for t4/t5 now that they bought a durable striker. I think they have the least downside risk of any of the teams in the group of teams challenging for t4/t5, and have some decent upside if they hire a set piece coach lol.

I wonder where Osimhen is gonna end up, looking like PSG or Chelsea with PSG current favs

Arsenal should go all in for him imo

Osimhen just seems injured too often to pay the asking price. If it was like 55-60 might be willing to take that risk. Realistically if kai can add .5-1 more shots p90 he turns into a pretty elite striker even if hes an average finisher.

VARDY!

We are absolutely twatting them. Of course lol.

I wish I didn't go back and see what happened in slow motion, looked horrendous

I didn't see it, assume clash of heads?

And the way he landed yeah

Blagh so wasteful, then could easily have lost it, then wasteful again at end.

If we play like that every week we'll be just fine, some pretty bad finishing today even by our standards.

Spurs obv dominated the ball but alarm bells that the few attacks they allowed resulted in some big chances for Leicester.

Lol Spurs.

He'd be quite the signing but tbh if Kai keeps scoring we don't need him. Also for the price Napoli is asking I'm not sure he's worth the risk, he seems rather injury-prone.

But wait, there's more

Give us a goalkeeper

Yeah other than Vardy starting aged 37 they don't look that awful on paper.

But Vardy is back to where he thinks he belongs in the PL - will get more out of him this year than Leicester did last season

Spurs should have been more than 1 up at half time but then again Vardy missed a chance for a 2nd that I was sure he was gonna score. He buried them for fun in the past.

I'm glad the news on Bentancur was sounding sort of positive, looked horrendous when it happened and hoping he is all right. Also wish the SKY interviewer had asked Ange about Porro. He was limping pretty hard when he got subbed off.

I always think Boehly can’t get any dumber and get proven wrong. They are like big budget Nottingham forest. Buy a player and then replace them same window kind of stuff. They have basically displaced the whole squad besides Palmer, Enzo, Caicedo, and the mediocre goalkeeper they signed 8 backups for. And all those guys have been there one year.

It is good to have him back. Missed this level of shithousery, they just dont make them like they used to anymore

Yes, this is an interesting point and it has a lot to do with people's perceptions of what a good striker is.

Mostly they think about elite level finishing, which is one obvious way to get the ball into the back of the net, but some strikers are far from elite finishers but nevertheless acrrue large numbers of goals through an elite sense of positioning and game reading. People are often surprised to hear that C. Ronaldo was an example of this, and that his finishing stats weren't what they expect.

Own goal from last weekends FA cup preliminary rounds

I like Felix, thought he was probably our best player the last time he was here. If he had been a bit sharper in front of goal, he'd have been a smash hit, so hopefully that'll improve.

Another thing I like about him is that he is a player that I'm capable of actually recognizing - a rarity at Chelsea Football Club these days.

Isn't his finishing kind of the reason he's not as good as people expected him to be and not exactly something you can easily improve on? I think since he left Benfica he's honestly been very disappointing and don't see that getting better in the Prem at all.

Chilwell and Sterling training separately from the rest of he first team squad.

Chilwell would make a decent pickup for United imo.

We already have two sick notes at LB, we don’t need a third. United badly need a healthy LB that is halfway decent, but Chillwell isn’t that answer given his injury history

Think he looked like a player lacking confidence more than anything. He'd do well but tried too hard which sometimes got in his own way.

It seems to me that being in Atletico's defensive system has been difficult for him. I think that now that he joins a (somewhat) less disastrous and tumultuous Chelsea team, he has a chance to come good.

That said, I'm curious about how he's going to fit in. Nkunku - Felix - Palmer seems like a trio that could potentially be excellent but more likely won't be in practice. Hope I'm wrong.
