Season Preview:
Man City and Arsenal have distanced themselves as the clear favorites for the title. With Arsenal closing the gap and beating Man City on xG could this be the year that they get over the line? There are some large error bars on Liverpool with klopp retiring and Salah getting older, will they be able to insert themselves in the title race again like they did last year?
For top 4/5 can Aston Villa repeat last years feat thanks to the normal culprits being completely incompetent or will one of Chelsea/United get their **** together finally (hopefully not)? Spurs went full Spurs throwing the match vs City to stop arsenal from winning the title while costing themselves top 4 in the process, will they be in the race again despite doing no business at all in the summer to address squad needs?
The relegation fight as usual has the 3 promoted teams as favorites to go back down, but with PSR looming in the background could we see a surprise team relegated?
Think he looked like a player lacking confidence more than anything. He'd do well but tried too hard which sometimes got in his own way.
It seems to me that being in Atletico's defensive system has been difficult for him. I think that now that he joins a (somewhat) less disastrous and tumultuous Chelsea team, he has a chance to come good.
That said, I'm curious about how he's going to fit in. Nkunku - Felix - Palmer seems like a trio that could potentially be excellent but more likely won't be in
Same. Felix is somebody who wants the ball a lot, so is Palmer, so is Enzo. It'll be interesting for sure.
Felix was pretty classy during his previous spell at Chelsea, if somewhat lacking in end product. The right manager could probably really do something with him.
Pretty nasty work how Chelsea have already given away Sterling and Chalobah’s numbers to Felix and Neto.
Looked up the starting XI for Felix’s last game with Chelsea and besides Enzo and Madueke, all players are either gone or banished (Chilwell, Raheem, etc)
Maresca seems like a bit of a moron. His comments were daft. And I like that he didn’t even say he had a full complement of players. It was even less than allowed despite them having a hundred on the books. And he doesn’t care they are paying like 20 guys 100 or 200k pw to train separately. He better like those 20 guys in his real squad a lot cuz they are gonna be ****ed pretty soon.
The environment at Chelsea just seems unbelievably toxic.
The Chelsea WhatsApp group must be absolute gold right now.

Yeah hard to really figure out what he is saying. Why would Sterling play in every pre-season friendly only to be told he will struggle for playing time? Could've had all summer to find a new club.
Congrats on City on finding a Gundogan replacement
i know it's cool to hate on chelsea for stuff. but i find it hard to see how pushing out the selfish wont pass on a 3v0 overpaid player that isn't performing would somehow make the atmosphere "toxic". if anything clearing the way for the young players who are performing should improve the overall atmosphere.
there's a lot that can be said about how chelsea are spending money but telling sterling and chillwell they aren't in the plans just seems like standard sports is a business stuff

Pretty sure he was referring to the other 20-21 players that are pushed out of the squad. Many of whom you've signed last year.
But yea Im sure the atmosphere is peachy
Jenas sacked by the BBC following complaints about workplace conduct ("inappropriate behaviour"). Issues were raised with the broadcaster a few weeks ago, and it took action.

i guess i'd have to see names of people you're talking about. i assume it's not just that dumb sky sports graphic that was circulating.

You mean a handful of players who you have either signed very recently or have given massive contract extension also very recently? Yeah I can't imagine why anyone would think the atmosphere at Chelsea is toxic. Apparently they make players part of their pre-season and then 10 days before the transfer deadline tell them they can go.

who are the players you guys are talking about?
sterling has been on the way out for at least all of last season, if he's surprised by being replaced now he's an idiot. this was not some rug pull it was very obvious to everyone that was watching that he was disappointing. it looks like he had a chance to impress maresca which he apparently failed at and now he's set to move on and chelsea have agreed to help find him a new club.

What are you on about? Chelsea played 6 pre-season friendlies. Sterling played in every single one. You think it's normal for a club to field a player in all of those games if they know he's about to be shown the door?
The players we are talking about are the ones who aren't even going to be able to warm the bench as no bench in christendom is big enough. According to the many Chelsea fans, this dumpster fire is only happening because they are expecting a transfer ban and are stocking up in advance of that. Any comment that points out how insane that is and only results in promising players not getting a game time is taken as slight on the club's character.
Your screen name is very apt.
do any of your clubs want sterling on 325k a week?
sterling has every right to sit on his insane salary, but chelsea equally have every right to not play him when he apparently doesn't fit into the managers scheme. he had a preseason to see him and maresca apparently decided he was going to struggle to get minutes going forward.
the faux outrage is just stupid. are people just upset that chelsea is willing and financially able to cut from an admittedly bad decision and not just sit it out and suffer?

How can this possibly be true having played in every single pre-season game? Why on earth would anyone play Sterling if he has been on the way out for ''at least all of last season''?
Why did Lukaku, who was actually on the way out for a while now, not play any pre-season games?

No but who told you to sign Sterling for 5 years on that salary?

Ooh please. It's amusing watching a club as big as Chelsea click buttons and then fanboys like yourself try and defend the stupidity.
This thread on Chelsea is ridiculous. IDK whats true or not. Inside are claims like Boehly proposed playing 4-4-3 to Tuchel. Apparently he also tried to bring a group of friends in to meet the players inside the dressing room when it was HT vs West Ham. Tuchel refused and got sacked 3 days later. Sacking Poch was the part I really didnt understand last season.

there is a new manager who is looking at the team. why is it surprising to see him play people in preseason to see how they do and then make decisions? is it a cultural divide thing here that this isn't how soccer preseason works? because it's how all american sport preseasons work. that just seems like an obvious thing you do in PRESEASON, especially when almost half your starting lineup isnt with you.
Lukaku is an ownership decision, i dont think maresca would be allowed to keep lukaku even if he wanted him. sterling appears to be a combined manager technical decision and an ownership agreement. his agents made a big deal about it which is fair to best look out for their client, but it couldn't have been a surprise that he was falling down on the depth chart, Nkunku, Neto, and even nico jackson are all above him in that position for maresca's set up.
sterling was a bad decision by the ownership who were just bought in and looking to make a splash. they made several bad decisions. they now have admitted some of them and aren't forcing themselves to stay committed to a bad idea like sterling which apparently makes people big mad especially in the media.
Wonder what this is all about?

It's fairly uncommon to have someone who ''was on the way out since all of last season'' this involved in pre-season and then cut him the day off the match? The day before?
sterling was a bad decision by the ownership
Funnily enough I'd argue he's better than any of the players you named would start over him. That doesn't say a lot, I agree, but still.

he was told on friday prior to the sunday game.
then you haven't been watching much of the games i'd guess. which is fine.
Some text messages it appears. That article mentions "digital communications". Apparently Jenas said this on TalkSport about it
TalkSport really are the half way house for anyone sacked from TV.
Gray, Keys, White, Jenas...
The best bit is his Talksport show featured a segment on the most iconic football haircut.
Jenas put forward Jason Lee's pineapple.
I do hope Baddiel was listening.
