The MMA Thread
Since there's a SE Boxing Thread that evolved out of the PBF/Pac abortion, I thought we should have a SE MMA Thread as w
Paddy and Aspinall absolutely bossing it.
Paddy fought a bum again. 6 UFC fights and still hasn't met anyone decent (Ferguson is past it) and Paddy lost to Jared Gordon. Let's see him fight a top 10 guy and see if the hype train goes off the rails.
I expected Belal to beat Leon. Almost took the bet but I like to watch stuff when I lose my money 😃
Can't we just make Aspinall the official Champ? It's such BS that he's called the interim and Jones walks around holding the division up even though he never beat the Champion.
They did this the first time the UFC came to the UK, but I think the second one was at a UK friendly time. It is very annoying. It's not like the US fans would have to go get at up at some ungodly hour to watch if the event started late evening in the UK.
It's crappy for the fighters as well, who have to adopt weird training and sleep schedules to ensure they're fresh when their fight starts.
UFC ****s the UK fans so hard.
Usually we get a rubbish card with no title fights. This time we get some title fights and have to stay up to silly time (including the fans attending) so the US fans can enjoy their day and watch during evening.
When UFC goes to Saudi Arabia the fights happen at a friendly time for them. I guess they can't pull the same **** because Saudi pays money.
Aspinall calling for a four way tournament with Jones - Stipe and Him - Pereira.
Never going to happen, but would be awesome.
Has UFC ran two fights in a night before?
Any disagreements on my mma Mount Rushmore?
GSP
Jones
Anderson Silva
Fedor
I feel like that's a safe, non-controversial list.
Mighty Mouse might have a case but I can't knock anyone from that list out to replace him.
Fedor sucked when he came to the US...At the time, MMA was pretty new still so it was easy to chalk it up to him being "past his prime"
but he was like 32-33 then which isn't old for a HW at all. I can't put him in there, I know people have a soft spot for Pride as it is a way to signify you are a longtime fan, but I think the resume he built his career on there is overrated. He legit came close to getting finished by Brett Rogers in strikeforce.
I don't really have a mount rushmore as I think comparing eras in such a young sport is pretty hard but he just wouldn't be on it for me
Would replace Fedor w Khabib
I briefly looked over their records and here's what I noted.
Khabib has 4 title fight wins.
I'm only counting 5 Fedor Pride fights. He did have two lolaffliction wins in dominant fashion while he was still considered the top hw. And more grand Prix stuff. Was on top for longer than Khabib. Fedor 6 year reign Khabib 2.
Khabib when I went to look for title wins..that perfect record looks awesome.
And ignoring wins/record, Fedor had a unique aura about him that's hard for a 155er to achieve.
The last spot decision is closer than I thought. Undefeated is hard to argue with.
yeah I mean if you wanna put someone in there from the MMA 1.0 era and do it based on resume, then yeah it would be Fedor over someone like Randy, Chuck
I do think he got exposed when he came to the states though
DC probably deserves a mention, if Bones wasn't the goat then he may have been
give Figueiredo the winner of Usman/Sandhagen, winner gets merab/omalley winner

The last
Yeah it’s true, good points. I guess recency bias played a part for me, his sheer dominance feels unparalleled. Only other guy like that (to me) is jones
OMalley gonna have his work cutout for him to stay champ with Merab, Usman in this division
Ankalaav/Rakic at UFC 308 so Ankalaav won't be Pereira next fight I doubt
i think he meant say black eyes, and he made a motion like swelling face.
english is getting good and its a very good point he makes.
this man's skill in talking sht about powerslap and why people watch is maxxed
I can't believe people still follow the UFC bum fight model. You are just a Dana White ****ing sucker.
All you have to do is look up basically any fight by Seksan on youtube to see how you are being conned.
We are in the Soe Lin Oo era of martial arts.
surprised to see Izzy down to nearly a pick em vs DDP
he doesnt have the strickland fight and he's probably like -300 vs DDP, he's only 34, not like he is that old
he's schooled the stocky durable jacked types his entire career
DDP odds were longer before. I should have taken them when I saw.
DDP has to be the favourite and I highly doubt Israel has developed any form of ground / grappling game.
Such an interesting fight. If Izzy can stay on the outside, he can pick him apart as the more technical striker. If it's going to be a brawl i'd favor Dricus.
Hope Izzy wins.
Other dude is boring.
Then Izzy can have a retirement fight vs Pereira
Time for Tuivasa to hang it up.
I just think DDP gets countered at some point, he's a pretty sloppy striker
Time for Izzy to retire, you can't get outstruck by Strickland and then choked out by a jobber who wouldn't be champ in any other era at 185.
Izzy gotta have the most life comes at ya fast UFC career for 1 of the greats
sleeps Pereira in the rematch and avenges his loss to him
then gets schooled by Strickland and subbed by DDP and its basically over as far as top level
dont think he can move to 205 with too much success really, his style is built on distance/range
