I think Hill can wrestle/grapple with him, tie him up, wear on him more than Jiri did

Pereira is still really limited as a MMA fighter overall

I believe it when I see it. Jamahal Hill was zero UFC career takedowns (and zero submission attempts). That might be the main reason why the UFC even booked that fight for the main event.

Then again, I still don't think that fight is even going to happen.

I was thinking on pouncing on 1.67x-2.28x on Pereira-Hill respectively (for Pereira), thoughts???

I have no idea how to adequately price in the risk of Hill pulling a Dillashaw and competing without being ready versus him just pulling out of the fight.

6 weeks ago Hill's manager said they were looking for a return in the summer. Less than two weeks ago, Jon jones said the UFC contacted him again to ask if he could do the 300 main event. Apparently they didn't offer Hill until last Friday, the day before UFC 298.

Gotcha, thx for your input

Will bet on Pereira

That sets him up to fight Francis in a "super fight". Not sure if Ngannou is interested in that fight though, especially if he has a decent performance against Joshua.

Also was the only W for PFL on the PFL vs. Bellator card. The latter won the other 5 fights.

I actually thought Eblen lost rds 1 and 2 (not by much) and thus lost the fight

But Eblen did dominate the last 7-8 mins of the fight and won a SD because of it.

Eblen was the better fighter and in a rematch I wouldn't make the odds any different than the odds for that fight but I did think under that scoring that he did lose.

Came down to rd 1, I thought Impa won that with his standup at the end (Chael seemed to agree in real time then sided with Eblen at the end which made no sense, think he just figured Eblen showed he was the better fighter so screw it)

Really like that the California athletic commission is releasing those numbers.

I knew that Costa fought between 215-220lbs but had no idea Geoff Neal would balloon up from 170 to 200 on fight night. Definitely looked bigger than Ian Garry but didn't think it was 20 pounds.

OTOH, Ian Garry might actually be able to make 155 if he wanted to. If they had a 165lbs division he would probably be an instant title contender.

DP has such a punchable and unlikeable face.

Here's to hoping Benoit tears him up tonight.

Weird take. Poirier's been one of the good ones. Seems like a decent guy unlike lots of these fighters.

Heck of a start

Kinda surprised they do another Ultimate Fighter season. thought not even Connor could revive that one.

I guess doing Grasso vs. Valentina as coaches means 3 things:
1. They'll be the co-main at the Sphere in September
2. Winner of Blanchfield vs. Fiorot has to wait a year for a title shot
3. Winner of Holm vs. Harrison gets a 135 title shot

Probably makes sense from a business perspective. Maybe they also don't want to have Grasso get destroyed by Blanchfield on Mexican Independence Day weekend. But that was the obvious fight to make and let Valentina take the 135 belt in what probably would be a gimme fight.

Chito getting title shot is amongst the most lol things UFC has done lately, not quite Hendo/Bisping level but pretty bad

that being said, would be hilarious if he won

Hope Merab kills OMalley sooner than later

The first two fights I watched were terrific: Despaigne and Pereira knockouts.

Who saw the Curtis Blades finish coming?

Can't say I necessarily saw the finish coming, but I do have him as part of an 8 leg parlay

Hot damn, Jacky boy

Saint Denis looks like a 185er, jeez this guy is roided out huge

impressive

I think Sterling vs. Yan (+rematch) was the only time since Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw in 2017 that the legit #1 contender got the title shot at 135. Since then it's been mostly "champ vs. guy from a different weight class" or "champ vs. famous guy past their prime after long layoff" or "champ vs. famous guy from a different weight class past their prime after long layoff".

Main event was as terrible as expected. Rest of the card was pretty entertaining though. I checked the scorecards, two judges had Durinho up 2-0 after the first two rounds so he would have won that fight if JDM didn't catch him late in round 3.

FWIW, Maycee Barber has always been kinda bulky but now she looks like a professional power lifter or crossfitter. Her boxing is still the opposite of technical sound but at least she can bull rush people through the octagon now.

Instead of watching a 3+hr broadcast, I think I'm going to start viewing the UFC through the eyes of a slightly tipsy and very excitable Volk, while he nails the analysis and predictions.

That was pretty entertaining.

Personally I can't sit through the 3.5h broadcast (plus prelims if they're good). In the past I usually got up at 5:30 on Sunday morning and watched the fights during breakfast before my group run. These days I'll turn off the volume between fights and try to get some work done unless I have people over to watch.

LOL

Madlex, thoughts on the Tyson vs Jake Paul fight? The odds have been all over the place!!! A couple of weeks ago, Paul was -600, now there are just about even, with Paul getting a small (odds) edge (-110). This is all over the place, and I figured it would be as such, given the names involved and how their reputations affect the betting market. Anyhow, I bet a hefty amount on Jake Paul at -200, thoughts on that latter line???

edit : granted, what was presumed to be a 10 round bout is now 8 rounds, but still not enough of a reason to explain the TITANIC fluctuation in the betting market...

Sorry, kinda lost track of the recent developments re Paul vs. Tyson.

Assumption for the initial lopsided betting line was that we're talking about a classic exhibition fight where people showcase their skills without anyone getting KO'd. I still remember the first Floyd Mayweather exhibition where everyone was shocked when he knocked that Japanese kickboxer down 3 times in the first round which led the other corner to stop the fight because they didn't expect for that to happen.

If you have an almost 60 year old guy in there with crazy power (which is the one skill that diminishes the slowest) there's serious injury risk involved on both sides. A normal showcase also would benefit Paul because he actually has a 5 inch reach advantage over Tyson so everything that's mostly from the outside is good for him. Fun fact: Terrence Crawford the current top 147lbs fighter has a 74in reach compared to 71in for former heavyweight world champion Tyson.

Long story short: If Tyson can turn this into a brawl because it's basically a pro fight that's only labeled "exhibition" because of how difficult it would be to get that fight sanctioned (or if they actually get it sanctioned) his chances are much better than what I initially thought.

Thx friend, always appreciated!!! I guess I got it in bad then 😊. I tried selling my bets (taken 3 days ago), but I would lose 50% on cashing out!!!
