The MMA Thread
Since there's a SE Boxing Thread that evolved out of the PBF/Pac abortion, I thought we should have a SE MMA Thread as w
Anyone see this - World Freak Fight League?
Fight starts at ~12.00
The Prelims are on Youtube and are laughable.
I've watched final sequence on X. Freak show is an understatement.
First "banana split" finish I've ever seen:
Watching tonight off and on, but managed to catch that complete domination of Soriano over Baeza.
265 to 26 in total strikes.
Herzog such a bitch
FWIW, Cannonier was up 2-1 on two scorecards at the time of stoppage.
That said he already looked gassed at the end of the third round because of his horrible decision to wrestle/clinch instead of keep doing what made him dominate the first round.
If that was the game plan going in that's almost as bad as the early stoppage.
Happy for Reyes to get back into the win column for the first time in ages. I think he was undefeated when he fought Jones for the LHW belt and arguably should have won.
After days of speculation (and a Bobby Knuckles post indicating rumors were real), Khamzat is officially out of the Saudi-Arabia main event. UFC claims he's "violently ill".
Since Khamzat never fights, that alone shouldn't be a surprise. Since his win over Kevin Holland, the latter fought 6 times. Khamzat once. Where it gets interesting is that some earlier rumors also claimed he would be the main event at UFC 303 instead of Conor vs an opponent TBA. I'm not sure if they even could get him a visa to the US though.

There’s a picture of Khazmat in the hospital so I guess it’s real .
There's also a new episode of Grey's Anatomy every week. I don't think those people are really sick.
Not saying Khamzat isn't sick because I obviously have no idea. And if Saudi-Arabia found out the UFC was f'ing them over that might have significant financial implications. Market didn't like when they invested in the PFL so having the first card in SA is pretty important to the UFC. And they already had to reschedule the card because Saudi-Arabia wasn't happy with the card UFC was offering.
It's just that it's been 4 years now since the Khamzat hype got full steam and he's fought exactly 4 times since the Meerschaert KO with 3 of those 4 fights against people who came up in weight. Looks like there's always a very convenient reason for him not to fight.

Yea idk what’s going on with him. He talks so much but hasn’t been backing it up . This kid who replaced him in 15-1 and his only loss is to Khazmat so should be a good fight .

Looked really good in his two UFC appearances. Whittaker is an absolute boss for taking that fight. Zero to win for him with huge risk. Winner of Khamzat vs. Whittaker was basically guaranteed a title shot. Win here doesn't do much for him, certainly won't get him ahead of Strickland and also not ahead of Khamzat if the latter fights someone else and wins.

Maybe he got a promise of a title shot if he wins ? Or they backed up the truck to pay him to take it lol
Conor / Chandler is officially off. Replaced by Alex / Jiri .
Heard the Conor fight might still happen in August / September .
Alex already fought this guy.
Lame but atleast he's involved as he's easy to root for.
Decent replacement.

Not going to quote myself but I've posted right after the Rakic fight that they're going to do Alex vs. Jiri 2 because that's the obvious one from a business perspective.
Hill out of 303, too. Replaced by Anthony Smith. If Ulberg wins that one there's a good chance he fights Alex next (if Alex wins).
Also Ortega vs. Lopes as new co-main event. Card looks pretty decent now.
No idea how they would Conor vs. Chandler reschedule for August or September? August has the Perth card which is obviously a no-go and September has The Sphere which also wouldn't make too much sense? There's 6 weeks between Sphere and Abu Dhabi in late October (which obviously also wouldn't work) so in theory they could add another PPV in-between.
To me most likely would be November if they're going to NYC or the December Vegas card.
I guess ticket prices went down a little for UFC 303, as the cheapest are now at $600 (1k+ a month back).
Just realized that Arlovski is on that card. First UFC fight was almost a quarter century ago when several fighters on the current roster weren't even born yet.
Always amazes me to see those names too. Clay Guida, etc. Guys just grinding it out smashing their brain around.
What happens to the ticket sales? You just get screwed if you shelled out huge expecting to see McGregor?
Out of curiosity I just looked up when Arlovski's UFC heavyweight title run was exactly.
He won the interim championship vs. Tim Sylvia in February 2005 and lost the title in April of 2006 in the rematch with Sylvia. In between he defended the belt twice including a 15 second KO on the day before Raul Rosas Jr. turned one year old. That's pretty wild.
No idea about his current contract but the last time he had a disclosed purse that was for a flat $325k. Highest "show" money last weekend in Louisville was Jared Cannonier at $165k. Reyes got $125k to show and another $125k for the win. That's a pretty solid reason for Arlovski to keep fighting into his mid 40s.
Another fun fact: He's the only UFC fighter who extended Aspinall to the second round.

Apparently the NSAC has a clause that people can return their tickets if the main event gets changed/cancelled. Didn't know about that before the Conor sitch.
That said, there's obviously a lot of people from Ireland and ROW that booked flights etc. to Vegas for that weekend. That's going to be a different issue. Probably didn't help if Helwani's report is true that the fight had been off for two days without UFC announcing it because they wanted to wait for the replacement to be official.
I was at that 15 seconds KO, Mohegan sun
Forrest was on that card too and Chael got choked out by Sebral, that cop that beatup Kimbo in a basement was on the card too
I didn't really know who anyone was though
Arlovoski seemed like the baddest man on the planet that night to someone that didn't know anything about the sport

Interesting. I suspect the min entry price will continue to go down... I might actually attend it, if prices become somewhat reasonable again
Bruce Buffer the short stack in the WSOP $50K. 11BB with 13 players left.
Izzy -150 vs DDP feels low
Guess it depends how much you think his fight vs Strickland was a GSP/Serra type deal but jacked stocky strong guys that can't close distance on him he's generally eaten alive in his career
