Maybe I’m overthinking this but with the expansion of the playoffs I fail to see what makes Bama a draw to someone like Kiffin. There’s sufficient boosters to make his salary what hed get at Bama plus pull some **** in NIL, don’t see why he leaves for Bama for more pressure when he can easily build a playoff team right where he is

5 star bama wr Ryan Williams just decommited from Bama. So it begins. Come on down the road buddy!

Not to pump you up even more, but back home people are floating Kirby Smart to the Falcons

Which I'd hate for BOTH of my teams!

lol that’s silly. that’s never gonna happen

Saw the Portal will be open another 30 days at Bama with Saban retiring. Teams gonna be salivating trying to raid that roster.

That’s what I said.

It's really incredible that y'all think Bama's NIL and whole career development package isn't the best in the business

guess we get to see if it passes the stress test better than a boiNG fuselage
someone might get their doors blown off

Second ND OC to Alabama in as many years

It just means more

hey man, got any of them free head coaches up there in south bend?

by madlex k

Has to be on the short list but depending on the timing might be too expensive to get out of his contract that just automatically extended through 2030 when Oregon won its 10th game?

sure hope the financial speed bump slows them down
been lots of fun rooting for Lanning while at Oregon and would hate to see him go

by Bigdaddydvo k

expert giffage timing
achievement unlocked, congrats on the level up

by AUGUY55 k

**** they’re gonna roll toomers if that happens. They might already be rolling it now for Saban being gone

If Smart leaves too you might not be able to buy TP within 100 miles of toomers.

as for the odds, Norvell and Freeman likely solid value

Buy-out is $20mil according to ESPN.

I know a lot of people who were upset he didn't get the Kansas job a couple of years ago. He's from the Kansas City metro and also played linebacker in college there and had his first coaching job. So he's pretty well known and highly regarded.

he's said lots of things to make you believe he's sticking around
i say 70/30 he's staying but what do i know?

Saban is done. Coaching isn't as much fun when you no longer can be assured of having the most talent.

Bama fans on Reddit/twitter are saying lanning is interviewing in the morning. Gotta feel for Oregon fans going thru this **** yet again

Seems like just yesterday they lost Willie Taggart to the state of Florida.

Belichick to Bama and Saban to New England is the obvious play now.

Imagining Bill in some 17 year old kids home trying to convince him to come to Bama is just hilarious to me.

I think this is the moment that Saban starts to lose control and slip in the dynasty thing. That certainly hasn't happened yet as one outside the playoff last year (wasn't it?) and in it this year. I think it is going south of that soon and a lot of the revolution going on as he passes 70 will tip the scales against the GOAT dynasty. When he went to Bama my quote was "This is Lombardi goes to Green Bay" ... for which I was roundly mocked as an Alabama homer. Consider the source. So I'll call thi

... from a week ago. Nothing's going to work for Bama on this. Dabo was a possibility to pull it off, but not now near as much as five years or so ago. He's damaged goods. Big slippage for Bama down to borderline 12 team qualifier, then worse. No titles until 2040.

What was Bama like pre-Saban?

Do they actually have more money / suppport / access to talent / better facilities than say, Ole Miss or Florida or even like, Auburn? Genuine question, I don't actually know.

Are the more like a USC or Texas or Ohio State where they've been good for 80 years and even when they're bad there is still a ton of money and support pouring in? Or are they more like Virginia Tech or Clemson where one iconic coach elevated them for 10-15 years well above their historical norms?

I see that in the 10 years before Saban, they had 7 years with 5+ losses and 4 losing years, although they were good prior to that under Stallings

Auburn won six in a row once vs bama pre Saban. Those were the days. Honk if you sacked Brodie!

Carroll went 170-120 in the pros, had a .600 win% over 14 seasons with the Seahawks, of course won one Super and runner up in the next. He called a pass play, or let somebody call it, at the 1-yard line with 25 seconds left with Marshawn on the roster costing him back-to-back Supers, with a QB that had just thrown 4 picks in the conference championship and somehow survived it. A big candidate for the worst call of all times. Could have been the only coach with two Supers and two NCAA titles. (Some things never leave your resume, such as that call.)

At USC he had a dynasty finishing in the top 4 eight straight years. Owned his two mega rivals -- UCLA and Notre Dame -- with a 16-2 record. How many teams have two rivals of that level?

Great career. Boy is he getting overshadowed in all the news.
