The Random Darts Discussion Thread

This thread made because of the hijack created in the English Premier League thread.

Darts is one of the most popular pub sports in the world, and collects a decent TV audience in the United Kingdom, Europe and around the world. Like snooker, there is some decent money at the top of the game, and the best player in the world, Phil Taylor, made over 1MM pounds this year IIRC, with his prizemoney for winning the last World Championship being a quarter of a million pounds.

Anyway, this weekend is the last day of the newly formed World Cup of Darts, contested in two man teams. Like the world cup of football, it involved a number of countries (24 in this case) a group stage, semi's and a final, and some epic English fail.

In the qualifying rounds the top 8 teams (England, Netherlands, Australia, Scotland, Wales, N.Ireland, USA and Canada) played a weaker team that had won an initial qualifying round in a short, somewhat high variance best of 11 legs match. Spain went on to beat England 6-5 and knock them out before the group stage.

Today is semi-final and final day. In the first semi-final, Netherlands beat Spain 4-0. The second semi is on now, Wales for Australia. The format for the semis and final is 4 singles matches and a doubles match, just like the Davis Cup tennis, but the doubles is played last and worth double. If it ends 3-3 a sudden death leg is played, almost equivilent to a poker flipament. Its good theatre and a decent sport if you have someone to get behind.

Currently Simon Whitlock (AUS) is playing Mark Webster (WAL) the match is locked at 3-3 first to 6 and the tie itself is locked at 1-1 Webster and Whitlock winning their first doubles.

Oh, and LOL darts...

I had him in the final against Littler :(

what an absolute disaster today was

Draftkings has match average betting.

I never tried it but the averages seemed super high and I'm 8 for 8 betting unders. They had Littler at 103.5 (104.5 for round 2) Anderson at 99.5 Bunting at 98.5 Michael Smith at 97.5 etc. Am I just running hot or are do these averages just seem too high?

Got to take into account that at this stage of a world championship you'll be playing a higher level of player than what you would be on average if you're just trying to compare to, say, the seasonal Pro Tour numbers. That 56 you're taking out against Callum Goffin or Robbie Knops in a sixth visit that drags your average down, you're probably not getting that visit at all. As to whether the bets in question are value, I don't know as I don't track raw averages, but just bear level of opposition in mind

That was one of the reasons I was taking unders on the seeded players in the second round and not their opponents. I'm almost sure every under of a seeded player hit. Definitely anyone who they had at 97.5 or under. For example Van Veen was just 98.5 and averaged 92. And he was playing one of the better players for the second round.

I ring this bell once a year or so, but Rapid for Premier League makes so much more sense this year than previous given how much parity there is after the top 2.

I was yelling at my screen. "NOPE TOPS TOPS TOPS **** YOU, GET HIS ASS RICKY" and then my wife told me to stop yelling because I scared the dog.

I think part of the reason people don't beat humphries very much is because they don't want to spend then next 15 minutes hugging him and talking really close

That was some game

Went to the sunday evening session at the palace ( the Humphries/Wright one).

I was shocked at how small the crowd section is, looks much bigger on TV. I can actually understand the PDC wanting to go bigger tbf.

Yeah they market specific sessions for their travel packages and schedule accordingly, that would have been the Clemens session if Robert Owen didn't say no
