The Random Darts Discussion Thread
This thread made because of the hijack created in the English Premier League thread.
Darts is one of the most popular pub sports in the world, and collects a decent TV audience in the United Kingdom, Europe and around the world. Like snooker, there is some decent money at the top of the game, and the best player in the world, Phil Taylor, made over 1MM pounds this year IIRC, with his prizemoney for winning the last World Championship being a quarter of a million pounds.
Anyway, this weekend is the last day of the newly formed World Cup of Darts, contested in two man teams. Like the world cup of football, it involved a number of countries (24 in this case) a group stage, semi's and a final, and some epic English fail.
In the qualifying rounds the top 8 teams (England, Netherlands, Australia, Scotland, Wales, N.Ireland, USA and Canada) played a weaker team that had won an initial qualifying round in a short, somewhat high variance best of 11 legs match. Spain went on to beat England 6-5 and knock them out before the group stage.
Today is semi-final and final day. In the first semi-final, Netherlands beat Spain 4-0. The second semi is on now, Wales for Australia. The format for the semis and final is 4 singles matches and a doubles match, just like the Davis Cup tennis, but the doubles is played last and worth double. If it ends 3-3 a sudden death leg is played, almost equivilent to a poker flipament. Its good theatre and a decent sport if you have someone to get behind.
Currently Simon Whitlock (AUS) is playing Mark Webster (WAL) the match is locked at 3-3 first to 6 and the tie itself is locked at 1-1 Webster and Whitlock winning their first doubles.
Oh, and LOL darts...
Littler just missed D12 again for a 9 darter :(
Well that was a demolition job, 16-2
What percentage of 180s come with the first 3 darts for a player? I feel like it’s about 80% but I’m happy to be proved wrong.
Un****ingbelievable.
OK that was epic
Fifteen legs on the trot yeah good luck with that. He threw as many 180s in one match as I've thrown all year.
Will likely be live on Twitch on Monday evening spouting bollocks about the worlds draw. I never know what the rules on overt advertising are here but it should be really, really easy to find if I let you know when I'm live and you have a weird need to hear my dour northern accent

👍
and you have a weird need to hear my dour northern accent
Do you pronounce that my or me?
Connor Scutt appears to be using a player model Condor Axe 120 "tri-fin." As far as I know he's the first person to use these on a PDC televised event and it's also the first player-branded version of an Axe 120 that I'm aware of.
It's not a new idea by any means but these are the first to be offered as a modern integrated unit. I've had a set for a while now, and although the flight trajectory seems fine and the extra space for grouping is palpable, they look weird coming off my hand. I sight the target through the V of the flight, and sighting through 120° instead of 90° is awkward, and then the rotation looks different through the air. The other thing is that when I'm throwing into a marker expecting a (good) deflection, it will often miss entirely and go straight through which isn't the expected result. So not even necessarily a good thing since I don't really have problems with deflections to begin with.
Eyeballing it quickly on current form I think Humphries has a tougher draw and Bully has the best one. I'd rank it CHL > MVG > Nuke > Bully on toughest path for top seeds. Could see MVG path being tougher though I guess. Curious to see hear the numbers say.
will start stream in a few minutes, draw (and pdpa quali) was a lot earlier than anticipated so i assume wiki has the details loaded already. de zwaan looked ****ing good
Thanks. Strangely your stream was the 9th one from the top just doing a search for "darts." Had to click on the show all and then keep going down to find it.
hero call is nijman to reach the quarters looking at the draw. given that he is third favourite to win his quarter, it is not that much of a hero call in fairness
Littler has the toughest draw of those 4, imo.
Expecting Dobey to win the Michael Smith quarter, Gary to win the MVG quarter.
Bunting DVD Heta De Decker going to beat the **** out of each other then Humphries to shoo whoevers left away comfortably en route to a 2nd consecutive.
I got the RD / Winmau premium advent calendar for the lolz. They were 80% off on Amazon USA at one point so guessing they can't move them here. If any of the pulls are extraordinarily good or bad I'll post them (expecting mostly bad).
cmon Paul Lim!!!
Yeah, despite having McGuirk to bink I want Lim to win
I'm sure we were all rooting for THE LEGEND and for a minute I thought he might come back and do it.
Excited for the return of Bullseye hosted by Freddie Flintoff!
The first reboot was **** and I have similar expectations for this one
Edit - about half way through worlds write ups, would be half way through but I was too busy counting my McGuirk money
We finally have a notable pull from the advent calendar which itself has substantial packaging.
There's plenty of great stuff in this including some Luke Humphries TX1 darts, but items that are good and useful are expected and uninteresting. We're here for the absurd and here it is:
Ok, here we go, I am nowhere near done on all write ups but am good through midweek so should catch up with everyone before they play, the Nijman hype train is real
Also started playing with how I project, while I've stopped posting outright tips I'm trialling weighting things to more recent results then going with modified half Kelly for sizing. Can't say I'm completely thrilled with how much of the bankroll it's telling me to put on Wattimena but we'll see
Kid on fire.
mower i'd be down to at least hear what every item in your advent calendar was
