SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics)
Welcome to the Official SE Politics Thread. The aim here is for high quality political discussion and debate. The concomitant aim here is for that high quality discussion and debate to NOT devolve into MAD posting, BAD posting, trolling, name-calling our community fracture.
We embark on this project hoping to encourage fair and thorough exchanges of views, and also fair and thorough advocacy for positions. We should learn a lot.
Rules
1. Posters are required to have 50 posts in SE over the last 365 days. This thread is not a proxy for the Politics forum, or an arena for goal-based issue advocacy from people we don't even know.
2. Pure devil's advocacy will not be tolerated unless it is identified by that poster as the aim of the particular post. There will be no run of the mill nitpickery for the sake of nitpickery.
3. This will be enforced loosely, but you are obligated to outline your basic position on whatever issue you're debating. We will not have loaded, gotcha-style internet-standard race to the bottom terrible posting in this thread. That does not mean you have to state every closely-held belief in every debate. You just can't hide the ball. "I'm not sure what my position is" is a completely valid position to hold.
4. Insults are out. You will not resort to that in this thread, because that will ruin this thread.
5. If you demonstrate an ongoing commitment to lowering the quality of discourse through incessant trolling or simply being really terrible, you'll be removed from this thread.
6. These are subject to significant revision as this thread develops.
There is a tradition in SE of better, fuller, funnier discussion of a really wide range of topics. Let's continue that here.
The actual answer of course is that the DNC is a broken system focused on virtue signaling and hasn’t been able to build an actual candidate who can appeal to flyover states in any capacity. Biden, for his litany of faults, still has enough folksy appeal that the non-insane would take him over trump if left with no other option
Newsom is just ****ing terrible and would get steamrolled and he’s probably the next most legitimate candidate

A lot of his appointments gave off a veneer of ‘im doing this so I can appoint the first (insert whatever)’
Biden never inspired me to begin with. On a lot of things, I don’t think he’s been terrible, on some things that matter to me I think he’s been catastrophic. Some of it was self-inflicted, some of it is just the nature of America’s place in geopolitics, but the blame still has to fall somewhere.

Biden was literally the only candidate the Dems presented that could prevent a trump re-election. He is also the only possible candidate that wouldn’t get steamrolled by trump in November
If Biden can twice prevent another trump term, his place in global history might be unbelievably underrated

I wouldn't presume to understand anything of what it is to be either an American Muslim or a Palestinian. All I'd be doing is throwing my best guess as to a solution on to the pile of what everyone is has been saying for 60 years.

picking someone like that would prob be their best bet, but the dems biggest fear is blowing out the republicans. then they might be forced to do something. they still wouldn't, they'd say the senate parliamentarian or crossing guard or whatever won't let them, but ... it's easier to just keep scores close and hope the republicans never do anything crazy that actually affects them

I agree he was correctly charged with many counts for his crimes and will likely be convicted or take a plea deal. Thankfully they caught him before she was in congress for 40 years or high up in the executive branch, one can only imagine what crimes he would commit then!
