MLB No Hitter Pool

MLB No Hitter Pool

This will be a year long pool, that will reset after each no hitter thrown. Once you sign up you are responsible for your entry, and all financial obligations that come along with it, through the end of the 2017 season.

Purpose
To add some extra interest in sweating the no hitter bids.

Cost
$10 to start, and each time it resets, then additional $5 on the 1st of each month.

Payouts
The owner of the team that throws the no hitter will receive 2/3 of the current pool, with the other 1/3 going to the owner of the team that got no hit. If the no hitter is also a perfect game, each entrant will pay a $5 bonus that will be split the same way.

How it works
I'll be looking for 30 entries, 1 for each MLB team. There will be a cap of 1 entry per person, unless we're not able to fill the pool. In that case, I'll allow people to add a second entry if they wish. Once we're at 30 entries, I'll get a couple volunteers to use random.org to randomize 2 lists. One will be the list of people who joined, the other will be the list of all 30 MLB teams. The 2 lists will be matched up, and you'll have your team. After a no hitter is thrown, the lists will be randomized again, and you'll be given a new team to sweat.

Payment
Paypal/Venmo will be the main forms of payment. If you want to join but don't have either of those, let it be known, and we'll find an easy solution, even if it involves mailing me a check. Since nobody will be on the hook for very much money at any given time, I'd rather not require escrows. However, if this is an issue for the majority, I can make escrows a requirement and I'm willing to hold them, unless somebody has an objection. Otherwise, when a no hitter is thrown, I'll post a list of how much people owe, and who it needs to be sent to.

Who can join
I'd want to open it up to the regulars from the MLB thread first, then fill it with other SE regs from there, before opening it up to just anybody.

Recap
Sign up. You're on the hook for $10 as soon as it kicks off. On the first of the month, you'll be on the hook for another $5. We'll keep adding to it until a no no is tossed. Once it happens, payment instructions will be given, and the pool will reset. Once it resets, you're back on for another $10 plus $5 on the first of each month. If 2 no hitters happen to get thrown on the same day, the one that finishes first will be the one that pays. We'll redraw teams and reset the following day. I don't want to have 2 no hitters thrown within hours of each other, and have to retroactively draw names to see who the winner was.

If you want in but are worried about it costing to much over the course of the year, find someone else with the same concern and split an entry. If you sign up but don't want to finish out the season, I'll try to find someone to replace you, but it's ultimately your responsibility to make sure your entry is paid for.

I'm sure I've overlooked several "what ifs" and possibly some other obvious things. Post your questions/concerns/ideas below and we'll work through them before kicking this thing off. I'd like to have it full no later than Sunday evening so we can start on Monday, May 15.

With Opening Day just about 2 weeks away, let's knock the dust off this thread and see if we can get this pool running again.

$25 per entry

The team that pitches the no-hitter receives 2/3 of the pool and the team that has no hits receives 1/3. The teams will be randomly assigned using the usual methods. If we get 30 entrants, one team per entrant. 15 entrants, two teams per entrant. 10 entrants, three teams, and so on. If it is an odd number, multiple entries would be allowed to make the distribution correct.

-Team no-hitters DO count and this isn't changing. It's 2024 FFS. No-hitters are few and far between already. I'm not NOT counting a legitimate no-no because a team didn't want their guy throwing 158 pitches.
-Less than a full game DOES NOT count(I'm thinking weather shortened)

Ideally I'd like to collect 2 rounds from everybody. That way we can immediately jump into round 2 once the first no-no is thrown. If you don't want to commit to a second round, or beyond, that's fine. Sign up and pay for the first one, but understand you may get bumped for the next round if there's a waiting list that I can collect from ahead of time to have the next round ready to go(lol at actually getting that many people/entries). I want to do my best to limit the down time after a no-no is thrown.

If this pool is still running at the end of the season and I'm holding money, I'll set up another squares pool for the World Series like I did several years ago and everyone in this pool will get a "freeroll" into that one unless you opt out. With enough interest, I may set that up anyway. Even if this pool dies off.

*I'll be traveling March 17-23 and will be without steady internet, and my laptop. If you already have my payment info from Superbowl squares and want to send when you sign up, that's fine. But I'm also fine if nobody sends until the days leading up to Opening Day. I just want to get started on filling the list*

Enough words. Let's get this list to 30!

1)ec_outlaw(will take more if needed)

I’ll take one, 2 if space is available when the time comes. Fine with sending for 2 rounds.

Ooh! Reindeer baseball games. I'm in for 2 rounds and whatever else you need to fill the game. Need PayPal info. Recently cleared all my PMs.

Thanks for running!

Giving this a bump before I start traveling. If we somehow manage to get to 30 entries I'll give up one of my spots to let another poster join in. Once I'm back from my trip I'll start making a real effort to fill this up and start reaching out to some past regs who may not know we're giving this another shot. Though I'm thinking(hoping!) as we get closer to Opening Day we'll see a bit more action.

I’ll take two rounds.

Gotta pay it forward coming off my Super Bowl squares score!

I can only win at 0 EV gambling, apparently 🙂

Didn't realize we could have multiple picks. I'll add one more.

Thanks

Let's get this to 30 for the first 2 rounds, and by Thursday!

Ill take one. Not sure how much it is, $20?

It's $25 and the hope is that people are ok prepaying for Round 2 so ec/someone doesn't have to go through the collection process all over again when the first one hits.

Edit: I'm sure he's planning to redraw teams after Round 1, just wanting to avoid the long drawn out process of getting people to join and pay.

You are correct. Teams will get redrawn after each round, even if all the participants are the same. In a perfect world we'd have a full list of people paid for 2 rounds. While round 1 is still going, I'd go ahead and take care of all the randomization for round 2 so there would be absolutely no down time in between rounds. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen.

By Wednesday I'll make the call(or maybe WE will as a group) as to whether or not we're going to delay the start if necessary and keep trying for 30 entries, or we cut it off at 15 so we can get started on Thursday. If we do cut it off at 15 and we're up to 17-18 or whatever, people who have signed up for two entries will be asked to give one up, and I'll volunteer to be the first to do so. Either way, if you're signed up and ready to send some money, send it! A lot of you already have my payment info but if you don't, shoot me a PM and let me know if you want to use Paypal, Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp.

And mark, thanks for the help you've given here as well as posting the link in other threads.

I'm cool with giving up one of my picks if we only get 15.

Gonna wait to settle up since we are favorite to cash in the NCAA Seed pool. 😆

Got a good feeling about Creighton!

$100 sent for 2 entries for 2 rounds.

So I want one entry for two rounds so I send $50?

That's what I'm hoping for, yes.

I’m in. I’ll send my opening day.

Edit: in for 2 slots, 1 if I am blocking anyone.

I'm in for 2.

Gonna shoot 50 to ecoutlaw

Sent $50.

I could take a second entry if needed to get to 15.

Reserve one entry for myself + all-inmclovin teaming up

Will send $50, need info
