My proposal for this week:

NFL: Ravens/Eagles over 50.5.

2 high scoring offenses, Baltimore is averaging 30 ppg, Philly is averaging 27 ppg.

Ding is the biggest chess hustler of all time if he plays solid and focused chess the entire match.

Ding Liren is an absolute Wizard....they call him a young David Sklansky of the East.

He's the only player in the world whose peak is as good or better than Carlsen. It's great to see him happy.

My Proposal: IU -29.5 vs. Purdue

Bit of a homer bet, sure, but this is the best IU team in 50 years going against possible the worst Purdue team in that same time. IU got humbled on the road against tOSU last week, but has been beating the ever loving **** out of lesser teams this year, and there aren't many lesser teams that Purdue.

Anything is possible, but IU's margin of victory against non OSU/Mich teams has been 30 this year, and in a rivalry game, I expect them to punch the throttle.

yes on chess

I'm watching the coverage here now:

Sorry i've been slightly off the map, which one of these chess bros are we rooting for?

Gukesh. at -400 odds.

Ding needs to play Ne4 or Nbd7.. otherwise White (Gukesh) will have very good winning chances I'd say.

Ding remembered theory (after a Very long think, iirc 30~ mins), played Nbd7 and Rg8!, he may (very well) win this game now and the match could be effectively over.

Ding has blundered with 18. Rh5, going from slightly better to definitely slightly worse.

That's right I'm live blogging the **** out of this game. What's a matter? Wanna fight about it?

Ding is in time pressure and Hikaru Nakamura just said he doesn't see Ding surviving this game because of that.

Gukesh has very tangible winning chances now.

Hikaru Nakamura declared that Ding is going to lose this game -- very likely to be a decisive game.

I'm watching him here now: https://kick.com/gmhikaru

McMuffin would not lead you guys wrong.
McMuffin is all bout his Syndicate team, young money Golden Knight.

Hikaru: Ding will NOT win this game.

Gukesh is in what is called += mode (plus equals). That means you have a draw "in hand" and get to play for a win without (basically any real) risk.

Appreciate the updates. I'm a very casual chess player who knows how each piece moves but no real strategy, so I like hearing an expert analysis which gives our likelihood of winning the wager.

Ding needs to play 31.. Ke8 or he just loses basically automatically and he's not going to play it. - Hikaru.

you're welcome pal, consider me your chess sherpa guiding you up the mountain of our chess wager.

Ding has 1min50sec with NO INCREMENT until move 40, to make moves 32-40.

If his time runs out he loses.

For comparison they get 2 hours for the first 40 moves. Which is 3 mins per move, and they generally know the first 7-8 moves of the opening and play that quickly. So there's even more time per move.

After reaching move 40, 30 mins gets added and then 30 second increment is introduced with each move.

Ding has to make 8 !!! moves to reach 2nd time control.

glad i sat through 3 hours of that for the anticlimactic timeout :p

We need proposals from Tall Paul, C Bids and thebigeasy59 by tomorrow evening

Oh sorry I got sidetracked and forgot to post..

Gukesh WON!

The match is tied 1.5 to 1.5 after 3 rounds. First to 7.5 pts wins the match. 1 point for win and 0.5 pts for draw.

what a slowroll, definitely made it sound like he had it in the bag but then blew it

i was going to propose cam smith to win the Australian open but that starts whenever its morning again in straya so that doesn't really work
