English Football 2022-23 (aka the bullshit WC year)

Welcome to the 22-23 Premier League thread!

After a runaway City title win in 20-21, last season saw everything go to the last game of the season, in which City again triumphed in spectacular fashion, beating the Aston Lions 3-2 after going 0-2 down.

Spurs nipped into the top4 after a fun back and forth with Arsenal. United performed at expectation by struggling to make it into the Europa League (looking forward to seeing Ronny play on Thursday nights).

At the bottom end, Everton and Leeds avoided disaster and Burnley were unable to continue their incredible run of seasons without relegation and will be joining Norwich and Watford in the Champo this season.

21-22 Memorable Moments:
- Eight ****ing months after having a cardiac arrest, Christian Eriksen returns to the PL with Brentford. He has a great few months there and has signed at Man United on a free.

- The Saudi Government buys Newcastle United and the fans treat the situation with all the grace that you would expect

- Ronaldo breaks a small child's phone

Coming in to next season, City remain favourites to three-peat, with Liverpool second. Der markt seems to think Spurs are the third best team after Chelsea's transfer shenanigans. Only six teams have odds of less than 100/1.

As per usual, at the bottom end, the three promoted clubs are most likely to be relegated, but it's also a bit of a melee down there, with about 10 teams with a chance of greater than 10% of being relegated.

Incoming players!

Lots of movement in the transfer market. City go big on Erling Haaland, activating his release clause at Dortmund for £54m:

Liverpool sign Darwin Nunez for £64m (potentially rising to £85m) from Benfica

City also sell to other PL clubs, letting Sterling go to City (£50m), and Jesus (£46m) and baby KdB (£31m) to Arsenal

Spurs looking like they're doing the most shrewd business of summer, bringing in Richarlison (£52m), Bissouma (£26m), Spence (£13m), and Perisic (Free)
