The Celtics sale looks official.
Here's what seems to be known about new majority-stake owner Bill Chisolm: He's a billionaire and a very enthusiastic lifelong Celtics fan.
So, he just might be the kind of guy who is willing to spend money to be the owner of an NBA championship team rather than a guy who wants to cut costs and get under salary cap aprons.
A group led by Bill Chisholm, managing partner at Symphony Technology Group, has agreed to purchase the Boston Celtics for a valuation of $6.1 billion, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
That price would surpass the $6.05 billion price a group led by Josh Harris paid to buy the NFL's Washington Commanders in 2023 as the highest number paid for a franchise in North American sports history, and would easily surpass the record number for the control stake of an NBA team, which was set two years ago when Mat Ishbia bought the Phoenix Suns for $4 billion.
Holiday probably getting dealt sooner than later either way I'd guess, once the Tatum/Brown extensions kick in

the TV deal was the final financial boon of that era and now lot of owners cashing out

I'd imagine Celts aren't gonna have too many years straight of 500M payrolls (nor will anyone else save maybe Clippers if they get stacked and Ballmer wants to keep it together but that probably won't happen in the span of this CBA) which is what will happen with the current team under the new CBA
All this probably means is Holiday gets replaced by some 3+D guy making half his salary

The Pacers' last 4 games are just stupid:
* Haliburton clutch 4pt play in the corner over Giannis
* Obi Toppin 3 in the Corner in OT
* Down 7 with 50 seconds left, Nembhard 3 to take the lead with 14 seconds left
* Down 5 with 40 seconds left, Mathurin fouled on a 3 and hits 3 FTs to force OT, then steal and finish plus a block to seal the win
Games probably shouldn't be this close, but 2 have been b2bs and 3 have been without Haliburton so meh

At this point, it would be hard to blame anyone for coming to the conclusion that the Dallas Mavericks will never climb out of this pit. The Luka Doncic trade, which only gets more shocking and stupid as time goes on, is the biggest piece of evidence in support of such a conclusion, but so is the fact that the entire organization has subsequently become snakebitten and overcome by an oafish spirit. Nothing good happens to this team anymore, and it can do nothing right.
Even the in-arena entertainment is suffering. Fans who attended Sunday's game against the 76ers—a 130-125 loss in which Quentin Grimes, the other guy the Mavs traded away at the deadline, led the Sixers with 28 points—were treated to a pregame hype video that can only be described as nightmarish. For more than 90 seconds, the jumbotron was taken over by AI-generated facsimiles of various Mavericks players pulling uncanny and haunting expressions while skittering and jerking across the screen.
One wonders what prompts were fed into the AI model that created this video. Was the phrase "should give the impression that a message from Satan can be heard if played backward" used? What about "should feel as instinctively revolting to a human being as a box full of snakes"?
If this video's very existence is evidence that the Mavericks organization has essentially given up, then so too is the fact that the front office seems to be bending over backward not to talk about it. I sent emails to all four members of the Mavericks public relations staff listed in the NBA blue book, and left voice messages on each of their cell phones. I just wanted answers to some basic questions, such as "Who made this video?" and "Why was it made?" and "Were you guys aware of the fact that it features a moment in which Anthony Davis points a gun at his own head?" I have yet to receive any kind of response.
