NCAA Basketball Thread 2024-2025
Quick OP here just to get us up and running
Things to watch for this year:
1. Can UConn 3-peat? Hurley won back to back championships with Clingan, Tristen Newton, and company. Can he make it a third with only one returning starter?
2. Who will be this years national player of the year? Zach Edey was the best player I've seen play college basketball in my lifetime. People throw the term generational talent around alot and Edey was truly a generational talent winning back to back national player of the year awards. But, now he's gone. So who can win the award?
- the 5th year guards in Mark Sears(Alabama) and RJ Davis(UNC) are a good spot to start. Both elite shooters and engines of an offense, they should lead two really good teams.
- the 5th year centers in Hunter Dickinson(Kansas) and Ryan Kallbrenner(Creighton) are also viable options. They'll be the anchors to what should be two really good teams.
- The phenoms: Cooper Flagg(Duke), Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper(Rutgers), VJ Edgecombe(Baylor), and Tre Johnson(Texas) lead a loaded freshman class.
3. Who are the contenders?
Lettuce college basketball
Subjectively not objectively
depends on if you believe in the maths or like to fly solo w/out a parachute
UNC is so in. Be real. Won't even be last four.
i'm putting on a brave face but it could obv go either way
at the end of the day, we're halfway through the decade and the fans of only 7 universities have experienced the exhilaration of playing for a national championship
if they are part of this field of 68, the chances of UNC repeating that experience is close to zero
heels i sent you a DM but got the msg that you need to delete msgs to receive DMs
Should be good now.
Gentlemen you've just seen the big ten champions play today. Michigan is BACK!!!!!
looked to me that Donaldson might've traveled as he received the ball on that final full-court drive

You need new contacts bro. I mean even if we slow it down frame by frame and somehow you're right, they've never called travel in that spot and they never will. If Donaldson keeps playing the way he has played the last 2 games, Michigan is probably winning the national title.
I thought Maryland should have tried to stop him
Congrats to the Rams. They have been really good recently, wouldn't want to play them round 1.
The most surprising result of a championship game in my GOAT career of doing the #1 countdown, was the Duke/Louisville NCAA championship game of 1986. I was approaching 100% that Duke would win. Reason: turnovers (not to mention pedigree). Louisville had one of the sloppiest ball handling teams you'll ever see at this level. Ammaker and Dawkins were just going to rape them. And they did. 13 steals, 24 turnovers for Louisville and another 20 near turnovers.
Yet Louisville won the title. They did it by gutting Duke underneath, 38-23 rebounding, 7-0 blocked shots. And Louisville outshot them 58% to 40%. And by Dawkins and Ammaker getting exhausted having played the whole game, could barelhy stand up at the end when Louisville surged. The most surprising result to a championship game I've seen in hoops or football in my lifetime, going back to the '60s. Of course this game tonight is not like that at all, means almost nothing, but it reminded me of that game.
What kind of precedent is there for a team starting 6-5 then going 21-1?
Top 8 seed lines are apparently finished which would indicate Florida is the fourth #1 seed regardless of today's SEC final result.
they may be better than the fourth #1 seed
they now sit at #2 kenpom
They could really be number one overall, but that would be after winning today and may be locked in.
3 at large left jives with
SDSU
Indiana
Unc
Xavier
Texas
Boise?
Jiving for 3 spots and a bid steal from Memphis and maybe vcu
I think vcu is dead if they lose today, others have them in.
Fanduel and draftkings have some lines. Draftkings had Texas 50/50 to make it but removed them altogether. FanDuel has them +500ish.
A10 championship rocks
close it out VCU
