NCAA Basketball Thread 2024-2025

Quick OP here just to get us up and running

Things to watch for this year:

1. Can UConn 3-peat? Hurley won back to back championships with Clingan, Tristen Newton, and company. Can he make it a third with only one returning starter?

2. Who will be this years national player of the year? Zach Edey was the best player I've seen play college basketball in my lifetime. People throw the term generational talent around alot and Edey was truly a generational talent winning back to back national player of the year awards. But, now he's gone. So who can win the award?

- the 5th year guards in Mark Sears(Alabama) and RJ Davis(UNC) are a good spot to start. Both elite shooters and engines of an offense, they should lead two really good teams.

- the 5th year centers in Hunter Dickinson(Kansas) and Ryan Kallbrenner(Creighton) are also viable options. They'll be the anchors to what should be two really good teams.

- The phenoms: Cooper Flagg(Duke), Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper(Rutgers), VJ Edgecombe(Baylor), and Tre Johnson(Texas) lead a loaded freshman class.

3. Who are the contenders?

tennessee getting out-rebounded by wofford is straight embarrassing. Barnes biggest choker ever.

RIP Achilles

Kansas up 3 with ball then 3 terrible turnovers

man KU just folding like a cheap suit here

which team wants it less?

crazy

these are mostly a bunch of seniors and fifth year players on the court for KU

where was the foul?

so stupid

Drake and Arkansas trying to save my day. Love the tenacity Drake plays with.

Self vs Coach Cow is like the unstopptable force vs immovable object of hold-my-beer bad coaching.

Wow

lol at the ARK player standing stationary

Self has two NCAAT wins over the past three seasons

Tourney entertainment level increasing

Is Calipari a big enough a-hole to beat Pitino in this spot (if St. Johns get there)? Well, yeah he's a big enough a-hole. As for if he can do it, I'll have to see it. Unbelievable. He routed UK in Rupp when his season was falling apart. Took down Kansas. That's #1 and #2 all-time wins programs. There is a picture of this dude next to "gall" in Webster's.

This would be the biggest L that Drake has taken all year...oh wait.

Make the mountain West a one bid league

Omaha going to do this?

Grats dog. My only cashed ticket of the day. Did not want to start the tourney 1 and 3.

Oh well. Plenty of get back games tomorrow.

I made two comments to my friend in the second half.

1) Drake doesn't look like a bunch of guys who can impose their will on other teams, but they do. Hey, here's the way It's gonna be: tough defense, slow pace. Like it or don't, that's what's gonna happen.

2) At the 12:00 timeout, Drake up 10-ish. I said the games I'd seen this year, Drake started to lose a lead about this time of the game. Sure enough, here came Mizzou, but Pups finished.

Mizzou played really good free-throw defense though.

This is a long-running joke between me and Mark from when we were managers. Among our duties was to get stats for the coaches; Mark thought of that phrase when the Pups had an off FT shooting night, and it's stuck all these years.

Also saw this in the first session. Insert your own joke.

I should've known this UCSD game against Michigan was gonna be close when ILP said they basically had no chance.

Not a great last play San Diego

That's a great rebuke of a legit challenge by Pitino's troops. Close game, nip and tuck till half ... then mow them down in the second half with vengeance, 50-25. Beautiful.
