I swear all the refs so far do not want to award a corner if they can help it.

Also that new VAR rule can take a corner away if mistakenly awarded, but it cant give one if the opposite happens. Weird.

Banger of a game winner.

ivory coast wim

and another south american team loses...

Ecuador went from dark horse to one foot out the door real fast

What are their odds to go through right now? Seems like they still only need to run it up against Curacao.

They are still like 1.20 (83%) to go through. Having Curacao in your group is pretty chilling.

3 teams advancing is pretty AIDS. May as well go to 64 teams.

Game on. Looked over at 2-0.

Gyokeres so wasteful.

And of course he scores right after I say that lmao.

A++ jinx

tunisia kinda ****ed with netherlands and japan still to play huh? tough draw

games start an hour earlier tomorrow:

spain vs cape verde (in atlanta)
belgium vs egypt (in seattle)
saudi arabia vs uruguay (in miami)
iran vs new zealand (in inglewood)

Sweden looks scary if the defense holds up.

Tunisia punted away like 3 goals though.

sup loose, you goin to any of the games?

actually, open q to everyone
don't think i am. aint nobody got money for that

i'm going to be looking at tickets to see if they drop, right now there's stuff for about 400 and think it'll get cheaper

going to feel awfully bad 10-20 years from now if i don't go to a world cup game played 2 miles from my house

have massive regrets not shelling out $100 to see brazil argentina olympic final to this day

Didn't expect that tbh. Thought (likely) 3 pts and a couple of goals to the good would put you in a more precarious position, but I suppose it's unlikely 8 third place teams beat that.

Subbed. Super excited to see it come home.

Insane - I know I should just relax and enjoy more football (I'm not) but this format drives me nuts - maybe it's just me but I also feel like the average quality/stakes/anticipation of each group stage has gone down quite a bit compared to the usual format.

Out of the whole group stage, there are maybe 3 neutral games that I've marked as wanting to watch

My proposal : make it 64-team so that FIFA can get even more money than they do today with 2 group stages (8x4)

First 16 seeds get a bye and are automatically in 2nd group stage. The other 16 come from the first "preliminary" group-stage

The smart podcasters tried to sell us Ecuador & Paraguay as some kind of dark horses because of their super-elite defense

Maybe, it's just a matter of lol CONMEBOL?

LÖL

😀

Beating scrubs 'sete a um' is kina our thing in the World Cup.

And we don't distinguish between LÖLCACAF and CONMELÖL scrubs, either.

For nostalgia's sake, here is a selection of fappy-avvies I found lying around (I won't take requests for new ones, of course):

Hydration breaks might be s hit but the VAR team having to strike a pose for the camera before every game is hilarious.

some use the pose to flash a white supremacy sign

lol tunisia, seems a bit weird to do that one game in.
