Trusty looks like that one is real. His WC is probably over.

australia with more impetus, a might 0.26 xg at the break. paraguay mostly going for the draw, looks like

you're not gonna believe this but it finished 0-0

Well, Paraguay and Australia played like two teams who'd both benefit from a 0-0 draw.

Shocker!

"It's Sergino time" - Sergino Dest at all times.

lol turkey just won the superbowl !! (last in the group)

Well I'm fixin' to forget that game ever happened immediately. Nobody hurt who matters for Wednesday. No card nonsense. Yes we still suck at the back but we always knew that. *shrug* onward.

Can take home the xG group winner trophy tho.

Auston Trusty reading this:

turkey went from 2 games of all the shots and none of them at the goal to few shots but strong shots at the goal.

Hydration breaks are having a noticeable effect for momentum with games, like when a coach takes a timeout in other sports but this is more of a TV break/are we playing in holy balls it's hot out (hasn't happened in this world cup yet).

They're learning quick. With another 3 games to learn about all the shots, with all being strong shots at the goal, they'd be unstoppable

Berhalter was our best player. Trusty scored. Thanks I hate it.

I did gain a **** ton of respect for Arda Guler tonight. He willed them to that win. Kid is nails.

by loosekanen m

I do not get what Poch sees in Berhalter.

Berhalter was our best player.

oh say, do u see?
dude has improved a ton over the last couple years

whitecaps starting midfield from last year (vite - ecuador, cubas - paraguay, berhalter - usa) all thru to knockouts. probably a reason they were nearly the best team in concacaf...

Someone on bsky called him "Alexi BlahBlahs" today and I laughed way harder than I should have.

Yeah I mean, I haven't watched him at all in MLS so sample size I guess. Tonight he was actually a really good player. Maybe he struggles with the speed of the game when the better players are around him because tonight he was really good. It absolutely pains me to say that, but it's true.

Crap day of football that, tomorrow looks epic though.

Norway v France
Senegal v Iraq
Cape Verde v Saudi Arabia
Uruguay v Spain
Egypt v Iran
New Zealand v Belgium

Been looking forward to Norway v France since the groups were drawn and hope it delivers. Uruguay v Spain should also be good with both wanting to win the group and avoid Argentina in the next round. Also hoping to see Cape Verde qualify. Belgium have been so s hit and AIDS to watch that I hope they get handed an embarrasing defeat by New Zealand. Unfortunately at 18/1 that looks unlikely but you never know, they might start Lukaku up front again.

yeah he was a backup mls midfielder with no scorepoints in his first 3 seasons (2078 minutes between 3 clubs). finally got it going with the whitecaps, worked his way into the lineup, became a ~0.26 non-pen scorepoints per 90 guy for a couple years, then 0.55 in 2025, and now 0.72 this season. he's been the best player on one of the best teams in the league. the progression has been wild.

between the slow start this career and his dad being usmnt manager i think he's gotten a lot of ****, but he's really found something and yeah i guess ppl are sleeping on it because they don't watch mls, and especially vancouver. have seen reports linking him to a european move, so maybe we'll have a better idea of what he really is soon. i'm pulling for him, seems like a good dude

Egypt v Iran

saw both these fas were crying about how pride is happening in seattle, so i'm praying to all the gods that the city responds by putting on the gayest display oat tomorrow, especially after everyone was told to stfu about human rights in qatar last time around. i know they will

Senegal has to win (possibly at least by 2), Cape has to at least draw, Saudi has to win, Uruguay has to at least draw, Iran has to at least draw, New Zealand has to win. Egypt might or might not win the group with a draw, should be a fun slate.

only spain uruguay can really end in a draw for both sides (spain almost certainly wins group on gd tiebreaker) and uruguay is still likely in but not guaranteed with a draw but Uruguay can possibly still win the group, why not yolo it for a favorable draw or just go home now.

at least austria/algeria scenario where austria best play is to lose by one is now an underdog but still live, that'll be known for sure by their kickoff time (but also likely after tomorrow's games). If there's too many teams with 4 points then both of those teams will need a draw to advance.

Meanwhile 2nd place Canada draws South Africa. Life's unfair

Except we play either Morocco or NL after we beat RSA. So we're ****ed.

I'm all for pretending Canada can compete vs Switzerland but we'll get destroyed by either one of those 2.

Bring in Nigel Owens as a ref. The most feared and respected person to grace the rugby field - a little gay Welshman who would make giant brutes cower.

There'd be no more diving or crowding the ref with him!
