Question about boxing betting

The boxing thread is still around, it's just no one has posted in it since May 18th. But the thread is still active.

I bet boxing more than any other sport. But don't have any general advice on "bankroll requirements" sorry. Similar to any other sport I'd assume that's at least partially dependent on the individual bettor's tendencies, risk tolderance, etc. I have my own rules I follow but I doubt my practices would work for everyone, expecially given that I'm a very conservative bettor by nature.

Boxrec.com and proboxingodds.com are two very useful websites for researching fighters and boxing odds. Like any other sport it's worth shopping around different sportsbooks for the best price but especially for boxing as lines a lot of times aren't as "sharp" as they often are for more popular sports. I occasionally find excellent arbitrage opportunities just shopping around.

One example of a bad line where I was able to benefit. Back in February this year, I bet on Joshua Buatsi to beat his opponent in rounds 7-12 at +450 odds. Buatsi was a -400 moneyline favorite but he doesn't have a reputation of being a big knockout puncher so the prop bet odds were priced such that it was much more likely that he would win by decision rather than stop his opponent. Buatsi did end up winning the fight by a wide 12-round unanimous decision so I assumed I lost my bet. Checked the book a few days later and they credited me for a winning bet. They credited me for winning because the fight went 12 rounds and I bet Buatsi to win in rounds 7-12 but a 7-12 rounds bet should only be a win if the fighter you bet on stops his opponent within those rounds - it's supposed to be a loss if the fight goes the full 12 rounds. If their intention was to credit a 12 round decision as a win for this bet then the bet was clearly mispriced as Buatsi by decision was far and away the most likely scenario for the fight. What's more likely is the sportsbook misgraded the bet due to lack of understanding of how a "rounds 7-12" bet is supposed to be graded. Have had that same situation (where I was credited for a winning 7-12 rounds bet when the fight went to decision) happen at another book, but just explaining this to show that boxing is definitely a sport where you can find and take advantage of bad lines every once in a while.

One other point would be to make sure you're aware of the difference between a 2-way and 3-way line when making a moneyline bet on boxing. Some books will offer the 3-way moneyline upfront, which is pretty much always a better price than a 2-way moneyline you find anywhere else. But in a 3-way moneyline you don't get refunded in the case of a draw whereas on the more standard 2-way moneyline bet you do.
