North by Northwest my favorite Hitchcock.

The final shot is to assure the audience that the new Mr. & Mrs. Thornhill are getting back to New York safely, and nothing else. 😉

You mean the scene where the couple is shown making out in bed and then we suddenly see a clip of the train rapidly entering a tunnel? lol

The Wrong Man is one of my favorites.

Emelia Perez is a daring musical about a drug cartel boss who transitions to a woman and then returns as a public figure for public good and supposedly is now unrecognizable even by close family members. There is nothing like this film anywhere. The musical numbers are well done and I give everybody credit for creativity and taking all this seriously . But, I found it so implausible I bailed out midway. Others may get it.

I love it when I can't even finish a film and then it wins the Golden Globe award for best picture. I mean wtf?

Detroit Rock City is hilarious. Slapstick done right.

They don't make 'em like they used to. It's like the Ferris Bueller of Christian Slater movies.

It has an avg rating of 3.0 on Letterboxd so I’m shocked that it’s a legit awards contender. I’ve been holding off because word of mouth is so poor.

Last year’s best picture nominees contained a lot of actually good movies, and for the first time in years I had seen every one of them before the ceremony. I barely want to see more than a couple of this year’s contenders.

Ghostlight was the best movie I watched in 2024. I can't believe the lead actor wasn't nominated for best actor.

Exactly. The train is going in the opposite direction. [emoji6]

I'm not going to write anything about them, but I think Babylon, Amsterdam, and KIMI, films from excellent directors, are much better than the reviewers seem to think.

The Order, Justin Kurzel, 2024

True story...Dark, beautiful film about the hunt for white supremacist terrorist Bob Mathews in 1984. Gorgeous cinematography of the Idaho and Washington wild helps keep this story from being too dark! Jude Law plays the FBI agent after Mathews, played by Nicholas Hoult. Both give great performances with admiringly accurate American accents. Jurnee Smollet and Tye Sheridan as other FBI/cops also give good performances. Marc Maron plays radio talk show host Alan Berg, who was assassinated by Mathews' group, The Order, for being nothing more than Jewish and outspoken.

Good performances. tight screenplay, and the gorgeous landscape makes this a great watch. Definite recommend.

I remember watching Marc Maron become a semi-famous comedian in the 80s, and I'd always think to myself "This guy just isn't that funny." Maybe he missed his acting calling. His hair was really huge back then btw.

True story...

I've been thinking about catching that... I definitely will now.

I like Marc Maron a lot. His pod is incredible.

The only local theater that shows "artsy" films is featuring Paris, Texas next week. I'm wondering why, but I think I'd like to see it in a theater.

I don't know how much of it I'll stay for, but I'm going to MOMA in NYC and seeing at least part of Christian Marclay's The Clock this weekend.

My two companions will go with me for a while, which I consider a miracle on the order of loaves and fishes.

I'm not a big fan of Marc Maron's stand-up but agree with Dom about his podcast. And while I'm not averse to Whitney Cummings like so many people, this is Tweet made me laugh.

Heard the other day that this year is the 50th anniversary of Bruce the shark making an appearance. I assume summer will be full of replays.

One of the scenes I always stick around for when I come upon it.

I listen to most of them. He feels like an old friend at this point.

Thanks for mentioning this! I’m a bit of a Maron fanboy and have been waiting for this since he’s mentioned it on his podcast a bunch.

I was always a fan of his standup but didn’t get into the podcast because I knew I’d have to listen to every episode. I did end up starting it anyway after he had Tarantino on and said screw it and listened to it all day every day to catch up. I still have about 1/3 to go but I’m in no rush.

Anytime I would think of a major event, I’d look up the dates and listen to his reactions. It’s a fun way to knock them out.

"When We Were Kings"
The story of the Rumble In the Jungle: Ali Vs Foreman

Considered one of the best sports documentaries of all time. Because, of course, it's not really about sports. A little dated feeling, and drags a bit in the middle, still relevant. I knew most of the story but never seen the film. Actual fight breakdown is limited but fascinating to watch. On Netflix.
