It's Fall Out, Boys
It's been a good summer with friends and family.
Even though I couldn't drive, I've had the support of a few very specia
The we explore this subject, the more Ensorcellation will ensue
How come the origins of idioms get lost in time?
I love etymology. So fascinating.
I teach my 14 year old granddaughter etymology. My daughter just shakes her head and says, "Not again."
They both tolerate me.

I loved studying this as a kid. Each word was an adventure that led to more words.
Trying to get in that holiday mood. Yesterday I put up all the outside lights and decorations. Will do inside this weekend. Spent today baking bread as my contribution to tomorrows feast. And tonight I am gonna fire up Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
all apology but i'm not in to 'awww, golly gee where do words come from'
apparently studies of intersections between notched insects and entomological interactions with human ecology are my primary focus these days
just kidding
the history of words is fascinating
the herstory ever so much more so
I told one of my classes a few years ago that I spent three hours on a Friday night lost in the dictionary, tracing word origins and definitions.
Their response: What an exciting life, Professor Cole.
I didn't tell them about Patridge's Dictionary of Etymology. That would have been too much for them.

I can never get into the holiday spirit anymore. I try, but it never works.
I love Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. But it makes me sad.

This is me in a nutshell. I can't live without my Webster's 1st and Webster's 2nd, but my favorite light reading is Merriam Webster's dictionary of synonyms.

Is it because your kids are all grown up? The holidays were my best memories growing up and I still feel the magic, but I feel it’s because I have young kids and can see it through their eyes

My kids are old, 44 and 42. I miss my wife.
But I got to spend yesterday with my three great nieces who are 8, 6, and 3. So not a bad day.

I made bread from scratch yesterday for the first time:
And then made a crispy skin salmon with pasta aioli and a lemon dressing salad for me and my GF:
I have never cooked much, but even I can't mess up this simple dish. It was pretty good!
Cooking is like this weird art that disappears after you make it, like sidewalk chalk drawings after a rain. Timing all the dishes to be ready at the same time is stressful, tho.
that looks pretty delicious... and that portion, jeeze. that's like one bite for me.
lol I'm quite proud of the bread, as I had low hopes and my GF warned me that making bread can be tricky. But it was nice and crispy on the outside and warm and flaky on the inside. But now I know to make them more fat like the top two and not look like two penises like the bottom two.
Zomg, the deliciously sexy Dua Lipa is endorsing the new electric Porsche. I gotta have me one!
I took advantage of the BF deals and got a new TV... my old one, despite being an oled, was completely worn out.
I bet that E-Porsche will look really great when I and watching videos about it.
Nah, people like buying stuff. Black friday is a great excuse to scratch that itch plus it "typically" is a deal. I myself blew about $200 buying myself new t-shirts I absolutely didn't need but positively wanted and they were on SALE!
Well, to be honest, when I have to make sizable purchases I do a lot of research. This also involves tracking valuation for some time before making any moves. When I decided to begin the venture to replace my older TV I didn't think I would still be at it more than a year later.
Things like changing technologies, cycle upgrades and yearly discount periods all drive my decision.
In the end, like many technology items, you have to jump in at some point otherwise you are likely to never make a purchase as you wait for new upgrades or better pricing.
I think this time of year is just about the best price discount until past ces trade show market cycle next year... I want my new monitor now as it's been more than a year of waiting.
My old c7 65" oled cost me +$3500 7 years ago and it is suffering badly from early generation screen burn... my new c4 oled is 83", has 7 years newer technology and it only cost me $2900 all in and delivered... I am okay with that as original msrp was thousands more than that.
