I must have missed Dragnet somewhere upthread.
Based on the entries in this thread, I can only draw one of two conclusions.
1) They don't write good theme songs any more
2) We're all old
Notice those are not mutually exclusive.
How can anyone argue the point when you have people like Schifrin and Badalamenti being discussed.
This intro is literally two and a half minutes long... week in and week out. NO WAY modern sensibility would allow that these days.

Alan Thicke wrote the themes for The Facts of Life and Diff'rent Strokes. However, he did not write the Growing Pains theme.
The Monkeys definitely deserves careful consideration... that was my next post.
