I bought a bottle of Benedictine for Xmas, only to discover it's not made by the monks; the name is instead a 19th century French marketing ploy. Not that the French drink it much, apparently, and the biggest export market is the US. Next year I might try to get a bottle of Chartreuse, the Holy Grail of liqueurs.

A bottle of Chartreuse is a lifetime commitment. You'll never finish the thing.
