One time, I met Joan Jett and told her to "keep on rockin'." She looked back at me and smiled in a way that said, "Thanks. I will."
Actually, funny story (I did meet Joan Jett, froze up and said "Keep on rockin'." It is what it was). One of my friends was at a show at the Roxy and Lemmy from Motorhead was there. From what I was told, my friend and the people he was with couldn't stop looking over at him. Later on, as Lemmy was leaving, he passed by them and stopped to say "Male bonding."

Looking forward to Weapons but absolutely avoided that essay of a post by Dom for spoilers. 😃 However I didn't think Barbarian was that good -- felt like I was watching something Mia Goth was supposed to star in.
28 Years Later was a unique continuation and departure from the previous two films. In each of the films the underlying message is that the virus isn't really the main enemy but it's a different story each time.
In so many ways it felt like 28YL was just a mashup of tropes and stuff done before, but it also really worked. Fiennes in the third act was wonderful. Hope the follow up in January isn't a total dud.
I liked it. I didn't have any idea where it was going either until the "bad guy" showed up. People all around us were laughing through much of the film, especially the ending. Well almost to the ending.
I think the image of the assault weapon connects the film to school shootings.
While I'm sure we could analyze the film for meaning, I do think it's mostly just a masterfully made hoot of an entertainment. And that's perfectly fine.

Hadn't heard of either of these but decided to look them up after you said Weapons reminded you of It Follows — one of my favorite horror movies in (somewhat) recent years. Cregger is one of the Whitest Kids U Know? Didn't even know any of those guys were still making stuff. Definitely gonna check Weapons and Barbarian out.

Just fired up Happy Gilmore as I haven't seen it in a long time but always enjoyed it. Plan to follow up with Happy Gilmore 2 (which I heard sucks balls) but I will be the judge of that! In any event the alcohol should be in full effect by the time I get to 2 so who knows what I will feel about it?

Gilmore 2 wasn't good but it also wan't horrible. Watchable for sure. Lots of great cameos. I was disappointed that Shooter wasn't greater influence as he is a spectacular character. Anyway Julie Bowen is/was one of those babes that is way way hotter at 45 than she was at 25.

The Mechanic (1972) - Charles Bronson acts cool (quietly). Jan Michal-Vincent looks beautiful. (for the 70's) Deaths ensues.
A few clever scenes and the occasional ridiculous explosion. Enough for a recommendation if you happen to be in the mood. I think it gets the ending just right. (They would screw it up today)

I have now seen 84 of these films. I have seen about 10-15 in the past couple years. Of the ones I've seen recently the two by Edward Yang, Yi-Yi and A Brighter Summer Day are my favorites. I also recommend Touki-Bouki.
The Yang films are on Criterion, and they are beautifully made.

I always liked that movie but haven't seen it in years. They did do a remake about 10 years ago but I never saw that one?
Over the last two nights I've watched Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac .
It's certainly not a date movie, nor is it really pornographic, even with its displays of vaginas and penises. In other words, it really isn't erotic at all.
Divided into two parts, the film tells the story of telling a story. A woman is found beaten in an alley by an older man who brings her home, and she tells him the story of her sexual journey. At times he digresses in response to her story.
The first part of the film deals with Joe's sexual awakening, lust, desire, and nymphomania. In the second part of the film, Joe can no longer orgasm, so she seeks out other forms of pleasure.
It's a difficult film to watch even though there are moments of humor. For example, in one scene she pulls out all of the leads to the spark plugs in an eight cylinder engine, and then as men try to help her, she tells us how many combinations there are to put the wires back correctly.
I don't know whether I liked this film or know whether or not Von Trier is full of ****, but I did find it engaging.
As they say, YMMV.
