Mance was a gifted musician. When the folk blues revival came along, he got gigs in Austin coffee shops. In the afternoons he'd sometimes go down to Town Lake and hang with the guys cane pole fishing there. He might play a blues song, but he really liked jazz and Broadway show tunes.
Of course, for his gigs he would accommodate his audience and play My Baby Done Left Me songs, but he could play absolutely anything.
