afaik, this is a high school dance team that came in 2nd in the Nationals. They went viral in certain circles because of the choreography and the send-up of the disco years. National high school contests are a big deal in Japan, with the baseball finals being the equivalent of our Super Bowl.
Evidently it's been more than 10 years since this came out.

Most of the time, underrated means overlooked, but with the B-52's, they really were underrated, because everyone overlooked everything that wasn't Love Shack and never found out how good they really were.
When you look at it, recorded music is only about a hundred years old. In a thousand years, if we're still here, it's interesting to wonder what songs will really stand the test of time. In 3025, who will be bigger? The Boswell Sisters or Lana Del Rey?
If we ever get around to launching Voyager 3 into the cosmos, it needs to contain a laser disc of B-52s's videos so our fellow Beings can scarf some fashion tips.
