Ask me about my experience in Asia
Last year I was living in NYC, two years out of college and playing poker for a living. I love NYC but it is expensive. Even where I lived in Queens, living expenses are high and a lot of my poker profits went to the government (highest local taxes in the nation). I also hate cold weather, so last year I decided to move for three reasons:
1) Save money. By living abroad, I'd save a lot of money on living expenses and taxes (foreign earned income exclusion up to ~$90K).
2) Travel while still being young and impressionable, and making me feel like I'm actually doing productive with my life.
3) Avoid the cold winter in NY.
I moved to the Philippines in September and have been traveling to other cities in Asia every month or so. Moving to Asia was the best decision I've ever made and I encourage all of you to consider it. Feel free to ask me about anything and everything. I've gotten a lot from this forum and now it's my turn to give back.
Cities I've lived in or visited:
Philippines: Metro Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Angeles City
South Korea: Seoul
Singapore
Vietnam: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City
China: Hong Kong, Macau, Harbin
Thailand: Bangkok, Chiang Mai
Malaysia: Kota Kinabalu, Semporna, Mabul, Semporna
Cambodia: Siem Reap
Top 5 imo:
1) Makati, Philippines
2) Chiang Mai, Thailand
3) Hanoi, Vietnam
4) Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
5) Bangkok, Thailand
